    Patricia (nee Dowd) Schmarder, age 94, of Tonawanda, died Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. Born November 3, 1922 in North Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late James and Winifred (nee Aschenbach) Dowd and had been a lifelong resident of Tonawanda. Mrs. Schmarder had worked as a teaching assistant in the Tonawanda School System and enjoyed playing Bridge, traveling and square dancing. She was an avid knitter and donated her knitting to Roswell Park to comfort cancer patients.
    She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Glen E. Schmarder; her four daughters, Carol (David) Reichel of Chandler, Arizona, Mary (Stephen) O'Hanlon of Phoenix, Arizona, Jean Bandes of Wadbell, Arizona, and Janice (Brian) Fisher of Tonawanda; and eleven grandchildren. Also surviving are 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great, great-grandchildren.
    There is no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday, January 20, at St. Francis Chapel, 71 Adam Street, Tonawanda. Friends invited. Inurnment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 71 Adam Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150, are preferred by the family.

    hospital after an illness of
    two days. Born in Keene, N. H.,
    he had resided in the Tonawandas
    for the past 25 years. He is survived
    by his wife, Winifred E., nee
    Aschenbach; a daughter, Patricia,
    Tonawanda; a mother, Mrs. Ellen
    Dowd; two brothers, John J., and
    William A., and three sisters, Mrs.
    A. J. Duquine, Mrs. Margaret Holshand
    and Miss Elizabeth Dowd, all
    of Buffalo. Funeral services will
    be held Monday morning at 8.30
    o'clock from the residence and half
    an hour later from the St. Francis
    church. The Very Rev. John A.
    Weismantel will officiate. Burial
    will be in Mt. Olivet

    Dowd of 195 Linwood Ave., Tonawanda,
    formerly of Bouck
    Street, Tonawanda, died Thursday
    (Feb. 4, 1965) after a long
    illness. Born in Tonawanda, Mrs.
    Dowd was a lifelong resident of
    the Tonawandas and was a mem-
    ber of St. Francis of Assisi
    church. He husband, James A.
    Dowd, died in June of 1934. Sur-
    viving are a daughter, Mrs. Glen
    Schmarder; four granddaugh-
    ters, and a sister, Mrs. Emmett
    M. Levi, all of Tonawanda.
    Friends may call after noon Fri-
    day at the Hamp Funeral Home,
    Inc., Adam - Seymour streets,
    Tonawanda, where prayers will
    be said Saturday at 9: 30 a.m. A
    Requiem Mass will be celebrat-
    ed by the Rev. Wilbur Yaeger
    at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of As-
    sisi Church. Burial in mt. Olivet
    Cemetery.

    of her daughter, Winifred Estella to
    Mr. James Dowd of Buffalo. The
    wedding will be solemnized in the
    Ascension Church on Robinson street,
    Wednesday morning, June 19th.

    Nuptial high mass was solemnized
    at 9 o'clock this morning in Ascension'Church in Robinson street when Miss
    Winifred Estella Aschenbach, daughter
    of Mrs. Mary Aschenbach of 162
    Oliver street was united in marriage
    to Mr. James Dowd of Buffalo. The
    ceremony was performed by t h e Rev-
    erend Father J. F. Kelley assisted by
    Reverend Father Gillmore. The bride
    was gowned in cream voile with Clun-
    ey lace trimmings. She wore a w h i t e
    picture hat and carried a bouquet of
    Bride roses. Miss Elizabeth Dowd,
    sister of the bridegroom was the
    maid-of-honor and wore a gown of
    white crepe with Irish lace, a white
    picture hat and carried white sweet-
    peas. Mr. Patrick Durkin of Buf-
    falo was t h e best man. A reception
    followed at t h e home of t h e bride's
    mother. Covers were laid for thirtyfive
    at t h e wedding breakfast. Among
    t h e guests present were; Mr. John
    Kelley and family of Medina; Mrs.
    M. Crittenden, Mr. and Mrs. DuQuinn,
    Mr. and Mrs. A. DuQuinn, Mr. and
    Mrs. M. Dowd of Buffalo and Mr. and
    Mrs. E. Kelley of Norfolk, Va. Mr.
    and Mrs. Dowd left for a .wedding
    journey in t h e E a s t and will be at
    home in 162 Oliver street after July
    1st.
