    Stephen J. 'Pinky' Nowak, Sr., 77 years old, a man of honor, noble in character and the pillar on which this family was built and will continue to stand passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Niagara Falls on May 17, 1939, the son of the late Henry and Mary (Monko) Nowak. 
    Steve attended local schools and worked at Occidental Petroleum for 36 years retiring in 2000. He enjoyed fishing, especially his trips up North; playing cards; OTB and his weekends at Turkey Point, but his greatest love in life was his family and spending time with his grandchildren. 
    Steve is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna (Lasky) Nowak; his children, Stephen (Carla) Nowak, Jr., Brenda (Frank Pati) Chatt, Jennifer Nowak Hallett and Allison (Ronald II) Appoloney; his grandchildren, Michael (Christine) Chatt, Lauren, Tori and Ronald III Appoloney, Morgan and Nate Nowak and Emma and Evan Hallett. He is survived by his brother, Leonard (Karen) Nowak; and his sisters, Pauline Pucak and Mary Margaret 'Margie' (John) Urban; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Martin, Phillip, Henry, Stanley, Thomas (Jo), Andrew (Janet) and Frank (Elaine) Nowak; and his sisters, Helen Oliver and Mary Jane Baggos. 
    Friends may call on Monday from 3-9 PM at the LABUDA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 356 Portage Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Divine Mercy Parish, corner of Niagara and 24th Streets with Rev. Jacek P. Mazur officiating. PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Donations in Steve's memory may be made to the Niagara Falls Firefighters Toy Fund.

    Mrs. Mary Nowak, 46, of 61 A
    street, mother of Radarman Martin
    Joseph Nowak, U. S. Navy, who was
    killed early in the Korean war on
    the aircraft carrier, Pledge, died suddenly
    late yesterday at Mt. St. Mary's
    hospital.
    Requiem High Mass for Mrs.
    Nowak will be celebrated at 9 a.m.
    on Wednesday at Our Lady of the
    Rosary church after 8:30 a.m. services
    at the Zajac Funeral home.
    Mrs. Nowak was born at Bituman,
    Pa., and moved here during her infancy.
    She attended Sugar Street
    school and Our Lady of Rosary
    parochial school.
    Mrs. Nowak was the mother of 12
    other children, Two of her-sons,
    Stanley Nowak, AK2, Lakehurst, N.
    J., and Philip Nowak, AOAN, San
    Francisco, Calif., are serving in the
    United States Navy.
    Abo surviving are her husband,
    Henry Nowak; six other sons, Henry,
    Thomas, Andrew, Stephen, Leonard
    and Francis Nowak, all pf this city;
    four daughters, the Misses Helen,
    Pauline and Margaret Nowak and
    Mrs. Mary Jane Roy, all of this
    city;, her mother, Mrs. Mary Monko,
    this city; six sisters, Mrs. Margaret
    Polewicz, Mrs. Josephine Guzdek,
    Mrs. Sophie Beczkowski, Mrs. Helen
    Schram and Mrs. Susan Kapelka,
    all of this city, and Mrs. Anna
    Tomaka, Lackawanna; two brothers,
    Michael and John Monko, this city;
    one grandchild and 19 nieces and
    nephews.
    Burial will be in Gat of Heaven
    cemetery.

    Florence C. Lasky, of Tonawanda, NY, age 101. Beloved wife of the late Frank Lasky. Born in North Tonawanda to Joseph and Clara (Sczechowski) Duplicki. She is predeceased by her brothers and sisters Pauline (John) Gworek, Stella Duplicki, Martha (George) Deisler, and Alex Duplicki.  Loving mother to Frances (Donald) Voisinet of Tonawanda, NY, Donna (late Stephen) Nowak of Niagara Falls, NY, Daniel (Gail) Lasky of Rockwall, TX, Janet (James) Dosher of Harrison, ME, George Lasky of Lancaster, NY, and David (Laurie) Lasky of West Seneca, NY. She will be greatly missed by 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call at Fretthold & Hamp Funeral Home, located at 37 Adam St in Tonawanda, on Friday Sept 3rd from 5p-7p. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Chapel, 73 Adam Street in Tonawanda, beginning at 11 am.

    Monroe Ave., who died last night
    in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital after a
    long illness.
    A native of Czechoslovakia, she
    was a resident of this city for 42
    years and was the widow of Martin
    Monko.
    Mrs. Monko was a member of
    the Ladies Sodality and Society,
    St. Mary's Greek Catholic Church;
    the Polish Roman Catholic Union
    and St. Hedwig's Society. During
    World War II, she was employed at
    International Graphite and Electrode
    Co. for about 2-1/2 years.
    She is survived by'six daughters,
    Mrs. Sophie Beczkowski, Mrs.
    Helen Schram, Mrs. Margaret Polewicz,
    Mrs. Susan Kapelka and Mrs.
    Josephine Guzdek. all of this city,
    and Mrs. Anna Tomaka, Lackawanna.

    Beaverdale, Pa.; 32 grandchildren
    and 19 great-grandchildren also survive.
    The services will be held at the
    Zajac Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m.
