    MELVIN H. PFOHL, age 86 of Niagara Falls, NY, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 28, 2020 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on October 16, 1933, son of Martin and Viola Pfohl.
    Melvin graduated from Wilson High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He loved his family and was an avid hunter and gardener. Melvin was a very active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, in Sanborn, where he served in various leadership positions over the years.
    Melvin is predeceased by his loving wife, Elaine Pfohl, of 60 years. He is survived by his three children, Donna (Robert) Knights of Penfield, NY, Barbara Walck (Mark Lindauer) of Sanborn, NY, and Gary (Karen) Pfohl of Asheboro, NC; four grandchildren, Lindsey Knights (Mark Janzen), Laura Knights (Jake Parker), Megan (Peter) Fendt, and Jenna (Kevin) Hanes, and a future great-granddaughter. Also survived by his three siblings, Marilyn (late Ben) Cornelius, Delbert (Joann) Pfohl, and Lorraine (Larry) Steingasser; and several nieces and nephews.
    Due to the current situation, a memorial service will be held at a later time. The family kindly asks in lieu of flowers, any memorials be made in Melvin's name to St. Peter's Church or School. There will be a private interment in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield, NY. Arrangements have been made through the DuBois Funeral Home.

    Elaine J. Pfohl, age 79 of Niagara Falls, NY, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 11, 2017, in Niagara Hospice House, Town of Lockport, NY. Born in Town of Niagara, NY on February 14, 1938, daughter of the late William and Frances (Walck) DeVantier. 
    Elaine was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family and her flowers. She was a very active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, in Sanborn, where she loved singing hymns.
    Elaine is survived by her loving husband, Melvin, of 60 years; three children, Donna (Robert) Knights of Penfield, NY, Barbara Walck of Sanborn, NY, and Gary (Karen) Pfohl of Asheboro, NC; four grandchildren, Lindsey Knights, Laura Knights, Megan (Peter) Fendt, and Jenna Walck. She is survived by her sister, Virginia DeVantier and predeceased by her sister, Mabel Beutel. 
    Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Monday (November 13) from 4-8 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Thomas Thorstad, in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 6167 Walmore Road, Sanborn, NY on Tuesday (November 14) at 11:00 am. The family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, any memorials be made in Elaine’s name to St. Peter’s Church or School.

    Martin F. Pfohl, 88, a retired employee of the former Dobbie Foundry, died Wednesday (Dec. 30, 1992) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston.
    Born in Sanborn, Pfohl worked at the foundry in Niagara Falls for 43 years, retiring in 1966.
    On Feb. 9, he and his wife, the former Viola E. Walck of
    Fairchild Manor in Lewiston, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
    He was a member of St. Paul Calvary Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, where he was once an elder. He lived on Saunders Settlement Road.
    Besides his wife, Pfohl is survived by two sons, Melvin of Niagara Falls and Delbert; two daughters, Marilyn Cornelius of Wellsville and Lorraine Steingasser; a sister, Edna Wienke; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 6168 Walmore Road. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield

    Sanborn native was former church elder
    SANBORN - Martin F. Pfohl, _ 88, of Saunders Settlement Road died Wednesday (Dec. 30, 1992) at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston.
    The native of Sanborn was born on Feb. 20, 1904, to Albert and Ida (Haseley) Pfohl. He worked at the former Dobbie Foundry in Niagara Falls for 43 years. He retired in 1966.
    Pfohl was a member of St. Paul Calvary Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, where he was once an elder of the church. On Feb. 9, 1992 he and his wife, Viola E. Walck Pfohl of Fairchild Manor, Lewiston celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
    Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Melvin Pfohl of Niagara Falls and Delbert Pfohl of Sanborn; two daughters, Marilyn Cornelius of Wellsville, and Lorraine Steingasser of Sanborn; a sister, Edna Wienke of Sanborn; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was the brother of the late Albert Pfuhl. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 P.M. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Friday at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz. The Rev. Herbert R. Maxwell will conduct services at 11 A.M. Saturday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore Road, Sanborn. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield.
    Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

    Viola E. Pfohl, 90, of Fairchild Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn, who was a homemaker for most of her life, died Tuesday (May 18, 1999) in the nursing home after a long illness.
    The former Viola Walck was born in Sanborn and had lived in Fairchild Manor since 1991.
    Mrs. Pfohl, who enjoyed traveling, was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls, and was active with the church's Altar Guild.
    Her husband, Martin, died in 1992.
    Survivors include two sons, Melvin of Niagara Falls and Delbert of Sanborn; two daughters, Marilyn Cornelius of Wellsville and Lorraine Steingasser of Sanborn; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore Road, Wheatfield. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery

    William J. DeVantier, 71, of 10025 Lockport Road, Town of Niagara, was pronounced dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital, Thursday (Oct. 3, 1968) after suffering an apparent heart attack in his home. A native of the Town of Niagara, he was born at the home where he made his residence all his life. He was a member of Niagara Fire Co. No. 1.
    He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran, Church, Walmore.
    Survivors include his wife, Frances; three daughters, Miss Virginia DeVantier, Mrs. Leonard (Mabel) Beutel of Sanborn, and Mrs. Melvin (Elaine) Pfohl of Niagara Falls; a brother, Adolph, of Niagara Falls; a sister; Mrs. Philip Walck of Sanborn, and six grandchildren.     SANBORN - Mrs. Frances E. DeVantier, 73, of 6219 Ward Road, formerly of Lockport Road, died today (March 26, 1975) in Memorial Medical Center, Niagara Falls after a long illness.
    She was a native of the Town of Wheatfield and had resided in the Walmore-Sanborn area all of her life. She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Walmore. She was predeceased by her husband, William J. DeVantier, who died in 1968.
    Mrs. DeVantier is survived by three daughters, Miss Virginia DeVantier, Mrs. Leonard (Mabel) Beutel, both of Sanborn, and Mrs. Melvin (Elaine), Pfohl, of Niagara Falls; a sister, Mrs. Clarence (Esther) Wittkop of Niagara Falls and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Harold L. Baum will officiate.
    Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

    and Shasta daisies adorned the altar
    of St. Peter's Lutheran Church,
    Wa'more, for the wedding of
    Mabel Louise DeVantier and Leonard
    Herbert Beutel. Chaplain Eugene
    Beutel, of Ft. Meade, Baltimore,
    cousin of the bride, united in
    marriage the daughter of Mr. and
    Mrs William J. DeVantier, Lockport
    Rd., Rt. 1, Niagara Falls, and
    the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph
    beutel, Lockport Rd., Sanborn.
    Given in marriage by her father,
    th* bride wore a gown of Chantilly
    lace and satin with pleated tulle
    and iridescent sequins, illusion
    neckline and a lace collar. The
    bodice was fitted with a fully gathered
    skirt of lace with inserts of
    pleated tulle and cathedral-length
    train. Her headpiece was a pill
    box type hat of lace and tulle
    trimmed with beading and a fingertip
    scalloped illusion veil completed
    the ensemble. She carried white
    carnations, liry-of-thc-valley and orchids.
    Elaine DeVantier, matron of
    honor for her sister, wore a rainr
    bow shade gown with portrait necklines
    and the bodice was of white
    lace over a colored slip with tulle
    berthas. Coverskirts of lace revealed
    a double skirt of tulle. . The
    teadpiece was a bonnet effect of
    pleated lace with tulle and. face
    veils. She carried ai bouquet of
    carnations.
    The bridesmaids. Alice Retzlaff,
    Carol Beutel and Mrs. LeVern
    Hasely, were attired similarily and
    carried heart-shaped bouquets of
    carnations.
    The bride chose Carolyn Mueller
    lor her flower girl. "The Lord's
    Prayer," and "Today, O Lord We
    at Thine Altar Stand," were sung
    l>y Paul Mchls. James Morgan was
    oest man. Ushers were Kenneth
    Wittkopp, Leonard Walck and
    Philip Haseley.
    The mother of the bride favored
    a rose-color gown with white accessories.
    White carnation corsage
    completed her ensemble. The bridegroom's
    mother selected blue with
    while accessories and a corsage of
    white carnations.
    Paper wedding bells and fresh
    flowers decorated the Berholtz
    Firehall where the reception was
    held for friends and relatives.
    The bride chose for her going
    away costume a blue suit with
    white and pink accessories. After
    a trip to the adirondack Mountains
    and Thousand Islands, the ocuple
    will reside in Lockport Rd.
