    Obituary of William Winchester

    William C. Winchester, age 93, formerly of Oneida St. Lewiston, died Monday November 13, 2017 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, after a long illness.
     
    Bill was born October 25, 1924 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Clark) Winchester and was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School. A U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II, he served from June 1942 to his honorable discharge January of 1946 with the rank of Aviation Machinist's Mate 2nd Class. Bill was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon. On August 16, 1947 he married Wanda (Trybala) Winchester and moved to Lewiston in 1955 where he and his Dad and brother built Bill's family lifelong home.
     
    Bill was employed by the Walter Johnson Building Co. for over 30 years where he had served as Vice President of their Grove Painting Corp. He then worked in the painting department at the NY State Power Authority for 20 years. After 15 years working for the Maid of The Mist Corp., he finally retired at the age of 83.
     
    Bill was a life member of V.F.W. Down River Post #7487.
    He is survived by a son, Robert (Caroll) Winchester of Ransomville; and two daughters, Sandra (Gary) Smith and Patricia Winchester both of Youngstown; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Douglas (late Thelma) Winchester and a sister, Betty (late Fred) Tucker.
     
    Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Thursday, November 16, from 3 - 7 PM. Funeral Services followed by Military Honors will begin at 7:00 PM in the funeral home, with the Rev. David Duke officiating. Burial will be private. Flowers are gratefully declined.     Grove avenue, became the bride of
    Mr. William Winchester, son of Mr.
    Joseph Winchester. South avenue,
    in a ceremony performed August
    16 in the rectory of Sacred Heart
    church by the Rev. James O'Connor.
    The bride wore a gown of white
    satin, fashioned with a bertha of
    point de Venice lace and a fitted
    bodice. Her long veil of illusion,
    edged with Chantilly lace, was held
    by a tiara of seed pearls and she
    carried a colonial bouquet of white
    roses with baby's breath streamers.
    Mrs. Irene Cecot was matron of
    honor and Miss Lorraine Keese was
    the bridesmaid.
    Mr. Douglas Winchester, brother
    of the bridegroom, was the best
    man and the usher was Mr. Donald
    Snyder.
    After the ceremony, a wedding
    breakfast was served to members of
    the immediate families at the home
    of the bride. Dinner was' served
    at the Ray-Ott club and a reception
    followed at the Lincoln hotel.
    The couple left on a wedding trip
    to Lake George, the bride traveling
    in a beige gabardine suit with white
    accessories. On their return, Mr.
    and Mrs. Winchester will reside at
    679 Seventy-sixth street.

    Joseph Winchester, ,87, of
    2456 South Ave., died Monday
    (July 19, 1971) in Memorial
    Medical Center after a
    lengthy illness.
    Born in Scotland, he came
    to this city in 1923. He had
    worked for the John C. Smith
    and Son Construction Co. and
    Wright and Kremer Construction
    Co. as a carpenter.
    He was superintendent of
    construction for Wright and
    Kremer when he retired in
    1955.
    His wife, M a r g a r et
    Winchester, died in 19W.
    Survivors i n c l u d e his
    daughter, M r s . Frederick
    (Elizabeth) Tucfcer of this
    city; two sons, D o u g l as
    Winchester of Youngstown
    and William C. Winchester of
    Lewiston, seven grandchildren
    and one great-grandchild.
    Funeral services will be
    held at the Cornell and Daggett
    Funeral Chapel at 11
    a.m. Thursday, with the Rev.
    Milan SI a h o r officiating.
    Burial will be in Oakwood
    Cemetery.
    Friends may call at the
    chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. today
    and from 2 to 5 and 7 to
    9 p.m. Wednesday.
