    GASPORT - the death
    Saturday of a 55-year-old
    Gasport resident has been
    ruled a suicide by a Niagara
    County Coroner, according to
    Wrights Corners State Police.
    Richard C. Bars, of 7834
    Chestnut Ridge Road, was
    found dead in his car in the
    parking lot of the Terry's
    Comers fire hall at about 2:30
    p.m., having suffered a gunshot
    wound to the head.
    State Police said that a 12-
    guage shotgun, a spent shell,
    and a suicide note were found in
    tiie car. He was pronounced
    dead at the scene by county
    Coroner Louis Raymond.
    Bars had been a volunteer
    member of the fire company
    for 20 years.

    Gertrude Bars passed away April 19, 2018 in Newfane Rehab & Health Care Center.  Born September 24, 1923 in Lockport she was the daughter of Walter and Nellie (McGraw) Verity.  Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Richard Bars in 1980.
    Gertrude is survived by her daughter Joan (Gregory) Ciliberto; grandchildren Jason Ciliberto and Marissa (John) Ciliberto-Laubacker; great grandson Autsin Michael Laubacker; siblings John (Catherine) Verity, Donald Verity, Nancy (Boyd) Holtham and late Robert Verity, Walter Verity, Helen Marie Verity, and Mary McAvoy; also several nieces and nephews.
    Relatives and friends may call Monday, April 23rd from 3-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 24th at 11 AM.  Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery.  Memorial donations to Christ Community Church, 140 Genesee St., Lockport, NY 14094 would be appreciated.

    Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at Baptist
    Church whan Miss Gertrude J.
    Verity, daughter Of Mr and Mr.

    was united in marriage to Richard
    Bars, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy
    Bars of RD 5. The Rev. Darrell
    J. Westlake officiated at the double

    ring ceremony.
    The church was decorated with
    ferns, gladioli, white carnations and
    feverfew, Miss Evelyn Baylies
    played music for the ceremony
    NYLON MARQUISETTE
    Escorted by her father, the bride
    was attired ui a gown of white ay.
    ion marquisette designed with a t
    illusion neckline and Chantilly lace
    insets accenting her hooped akin
    which fell into a
    train. Her fingertip veil
    was edged With Chantilly lace and
    fastened to a tiara of seed pearls
    Bows of white net surrounded ban
    bouquet of white roses and carnations
    and she wore a double strand
    of pearls, gift of the groom, and
    carried a white tatted handkerchief,
    gift of her aunt.
    Mrs. Donald McAvoy was matron
    of honor at her sister's wedding
    and chose a gown of light blue nylon
    marquisette fashioned with a
    fitted bodice, a tucked and draped
    fichu and ruffled sleeves. Bar fun
    skirt was trimmed with white eyelet
    and she wore a white net halo
    hat and white nylon gloves. She
    carried a bouquet of American
    beauty roses and red carnations
    surrounded by bows of white net.
    ' Mrs. Elwood Pittler. cousin of
    the bride, was bridesmaid in a
    pink nylon marquisette gown similar
    in style to that of the matron
    of honor. She carried a bouquet
    of tea roses and yellow carnations
    surrounded by bows of white net
    and wore a white net halo hat and
    nylon gloves.
    JUNIOR BRIDESMAID
    Miss Nancy Joanne Verity, sister
    of ther bride, was junior bridesmaid
    and was gowned In yellow nylon

    net featuring an Illusion neckline
    and bustle back, she wore a white
    hat and gloves and carried a bouquet
    of pink roses and carnations
    similar to that of the bridesmaid.
    Russell Ogden was best man for
    his brother-in-law's wedding e n d
    Clayton Bars, brother of t h e
    groom, and John Verity, the bride's
    brother, served as ushers.
    The bride's mother selected an
    afternoon gown of Navy blue crepe
    with a lace yoke accented by a
    matching sweetheart hat trimmed
    with American beauty roses. White
    accessories and a red rose cor-
    sage completed her costume. Mrs.
    Bars was gowned in a Navy and
    white crepe print accented by white
    accessories and a similar corsage.
    Immediately following the ceremony a
    reception was held at the
    bride's home for 180 guests, A buffet
    supper was served.
    GIFTS PRESENTED
    'The bride presented pearls to her
    atendants while the groom gave
    cigarette lighters to the -best man
    and ushers.
    For traveling to the Thousand Is-
    lands the bride chose a sheer yellow
    dress, white accessories and a
    pink rose corsage. On their return
    the couple will live at 33 Harvey
    Ave*.
    Guests attended from Niagara
    Falls, Lockport, Middleport and
    Buffalo

    Clarence Center, Mrs. Bars
    is the daughter of Charles
    Fredrick and Barbara Groll
    Neumann of Rapids.
    Mr. Bars was bom Sept.
    14, 1896, in the Town of
    Rovalton, the son of John
    and Elizabeth Altrogge Bars
    of Ravmond Hill. He was
    a farmer until 1959 when
    he went to work for Niagara
    County, retiring in 1966.
    The coutrle has 13 grandchildren
    and four great -
    grandchildren.
