Joseph A. Saia, 94, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Angelo and Jessie (Ferrara) Saia. Joseph graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School and attended metallurgical school in Chicago. He served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1945. On April 22, 1951, he married his beloved wife, Irene (Bartolomei) Saia at St. Joseph Church. Joseph was employed at Union Carbide as a Metallurgist for over 34 years prior to his retirement. Mr. Saia was a passionate golfer and longtime member of Niagara Frontier Golf Club. He enjoyed woodworking, painting, as well as playing badminton in his younger years. Joseph also loved music and playing the organ.

In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his daughter Susan Saia and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Lucy (Saia) Taibi and his infant sister Margie Saia. Visitation will be on Friday, September 14th from 4 – 8 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Committal prayers and Military Honors will be held on Saturday at 11 A.M. in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 500 Riverdale Avenue, Lewiston, NY. Memorial offerings may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Irene Saia, 97, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Guido and Angelina Bartolomei.
Irene attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On April 22, 1951, she married her beloved husband, Joseph Saia at St. Joseph’s Church. Mr. Saia predeceased her on September 9, 2018.
Irene was employed as a X-Ray Tech in Niagara Falls for many years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of the Niagara Frontier Golf Club along with her husband. She was also an avid bowler in her younger years.
Irene enjoyed many crafts and especially loved needle point sewing, ceramic painting and making dolls. She was also an excellent cook and will be remembered greatly by her family for making the best fried chicken.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Susan Saia; her sister, Joyce Sabin, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother Edward Bartolomei.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility for the excellent care and compassion given to Irene over the last six years.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Entombment will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. A Niagara Falls man died yesterday
afternoon less than 48 hours
after his daughter died while visit-
ing him at Memorial hospital. He
is Biagio Ferrari, 79, of 471 Twenty-
first street.
Saturday his daughter, Mrs. Jes-
sie Tcdesco, was stricken at his bed-
side and died a few minutes later.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tedesco
were held this morning at the Amato
Funeral home. She was buried in
St. Joseph's cemetery.
Mr. Ferrara, a native of Italy,
came to this country with his family
46 years ago. He was retired from
the Carborundum company.
Surviving are his wife, Liboria
Ferrara; three daughters, Mrs. Ventura
Tarrenti, Mrs. Nicholas Vilardo
and Mrs. Vito Scime, all of Niagara
Falls; nine grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Ferrara
also are being handled by the Amato
Funeral home.
