A few days ago Mr. O. Caufield received
a message from Youngstown stating
that his only surviviug brother James
Canfield was very low with typhoid
pneumonia with little hope of recovery.
Mr. Canfield at once started for Youngstown
remaining with his brother until
he bad passed away, Monday evening at
7.o'clock. Mr. James Canfield was s i x t y ,
six years of age and has been for tlie
past fifty years a prominent citizen of
the town of Porter. His first wife died
several years ago and about four years
since he married a second time the widow
s u r v i v i n g h i m . He also leaves four
children two of whom reside in this
county, one in St. Louis and the fourth
in California. His son from St. Louis is
expected home to-day. The death leaves
our townsmen Mr. Osborn Canfield the
only surviving member of this branch
of the family. The funeral will be observed
from his late residence Friday,
at 1 P. M., Rev, Mr. Skinner, the presbyterian
clergyman will officiate.
James married SPICKERMAN, Hannah before 1839. Hannah (daughter of SPICKERMAN, Peter and Mary) was born on 16 Mar 1820 in Schoharie County, NY; died on 15 Jan 1875 in Youngstown, Town of Porter, Niagara County, NY; was buried in Hosmer Cemtery, Porter, Niagara County, NY.
