Cora D. (Wells) Canterbury, 92, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born on December 22, 1920 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Ella (Russell) Wells.
Mrs. Canterbury attended schools in Pennsylvania. On October 18, 1940, Cora married Charles Canterbury in Scranton, PA. He predeceased her on April 10, 1987. Following their marriage, they came to Niagara Falls, NY, in 1940. She was a member of Niagara Community Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Canterbury enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. Above all, Cora loved spending time with her family.
Mrs. Canterbury is survived by five children, Carol (Thomas) Feger of Buffalo, NY, Charles (Mary) Canterbury of Attica, NY, Mary Rafferty of Niagara Falls, NY, Linda (William) Moore of the Town of Lewiston, NY and Thomas (Cynthia) Canterbury of Niagara Falls, NY; and was predeceased by three children, Ellamae Hazel, James Canterbury and Elaine Canterbury. Cora is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen (late Harry) Smith of Niagara Falls, NY; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, husband and three children, she was also predeceased by eight siblings, John Wells, Peter Wells, Mary Kilgallon, Nellie Wells, Mildred (late Robert) Canterbury, Katherine Dowse, Edith Walters and Ruth Rillstone.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (297-9007), where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 29th at 10:00 AM with Rev. Daniel Mann officiating. Interment will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 or to Upper Mountain Volunteer Fire Company, 839 Moyer Road, Lewiston, NY 14092.
