Vito V. Alongi, 94, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Anthony and Phyllis (Cavallaro) Alongi; and beloved husband of Adeline (Parcey) Alongi.
Vito enlisted into the United States Navy in 1944 and served on the USS Missouri. He witnessed the surrender of the Japanese, which ended World War II on September 2, 1945. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, Vito returned to Niagara Falls and began working at his family’s business, Alongi Motors, where he worked alongside his brother, Stephen for many years. After many dedicated years to the community, Vito retired in 1998.
Vito was a former member of the Century Club, the Niagara County Police and Judges Club, as well as the Alps Club. He also was a devoted volunteer at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital for the last several years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards with his friends, tending to his garden and restoring old cars. Above all, Mr. Alongi especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Alongi is survived by his children, Anthony (Cammy) Alongi and Michael Alongi; his step-children, Barry (Melanie) Dunstan and Brian (Janet) Dunstan; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis (late Victor) Conti, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, Carmella (late Thomas) Tedesco and Stephen (Carol) Alongi.
