Generation: 2

  1. 2.  MASCARO, Peter was born on 26 Jan 1931 in Cellara, Italy (son of MASCARO, Francesco and FERA, Giulia); died on 19 Jun 2019 in Town of Amherst, Erie County, NY.

    Notes:

Peter Mascaro, 88, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on June 19, 2019 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cellara, Italy on January 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Francesco and Giulia (Fera) Mascaro. Peter loved his small town of Cellara where he lived with his two brothers and parents, attending church at San Sebastiano and doing the very best with what little was available during the war.
In the late 1940s Peter’s father sat his sons down and spoke with them about emigrating to the US in hopes of a better life.  Peter made his way to North America through Halifax, Canada and arrived in Niagara Falls in December 1951 where friends and family who arrived prior awaited him. He had $26 in his pocket.
At a dinner dance at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Niagara Falls, Peter asked Laura Parenti to dance. Little did he know then that he would be dancing with her for the rest of his life. He asked to walk her home that night, and soon began a courtship that involved Italian movies on Wednesday nights and dances at the Marconi Hall on the weekend. Peter and Laura surrounded themselves with friends that would be with them throughout the years. They married in 1955 and went on to have 4 daughters that would fill their lives with much joy. They were blessed with 8 grandchildren and 4 wonderful great grandchildren. Peter lived for his family.
Peter was determined to work hard and build a beautiful life in the US. He first began working with his brothers Tony and Aldo in concrete and waterproofing. He went on to build homes and later create a successful construction company of his own. Peter built his first house where he lived with his wife and children in Niagara Falls. He often went to Canada for grocery shopping, which was something he loved to do. One day after a shopping trip he came home and announced that this time he had bought a grocery store in Canada and the family was all moving. The years in Canada operating Mascaro Food Market were wonderful. Beautiful friendships were made and he remained close to many of the relatives that lived there. He missed the construction business and after several years with the store, decided to move back to the US to pursue building. He started Peter Mascaro Construction, Inc. in 1968, building many commercial and residential structures in Western New York, and operated until his retirement in 1995. He built homes for family and friends - and for those that weren’t yet friends, although they always became so afterward. Some of Peter’s most cherished friendships came from his work in construction with wonderful people that he and his company built homes for and worked alongside.
In his retirement from the construction business, Peter continued to focus on managing his many properties, advising his family and grandchildren on everything from school to work, and on bringing back into the forefront of his life some of the simple pleasures he carried with him from his upbringing in Italy. He loved to tend his garden and share what came from it with his family and friends. He took care of chickens and other animals at his “Yard” on Porter Road, too. He went on to organize an annual gathering celebrating San Sebastiano of his home town, the “Cellara Picnic,” which celebrated old traditions with a new generation of family and friends.  Peter enjoyed making wine and soppresatta with his family and friends, passing the tradition onto his grandsons.  In addition, he was an avid Sabres fan, Yankees fan and enjoyed playing bocce.  With all of Peter’s success in life, he was most proud of his family and the legacy he created
Peter’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Jain for his wonderful care and friendship and also to Millard Filmore Suburban and Buffalo General Hospitals for the compassion, comfort and care he received.
Peter is survived by his wife of 64 years, Laura A. Mascaro; his daughters, Julie (John) Polka, Eda (James) Buzzelli, Franca (Frank) Romeo, and Gina Mascaro-Lore; his grandchildren, John (Adrienne Muia) Polka, Laura (Dr. Tim) Lukasik, Angela Lore, Stefania Romeo (Lee Hnetinka), Domenic Romeo, Gino (Nadeen) Buzzelli, Dr. Peter Lore, and Gabriella Buzzelli; great-grandchildren Nicolas & Francesca Polka, and Alexa & Ariana Lukasik; his brother Aldo (Pauline) Mascaro, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his brother Anthony (late Clara) Mascaro and his brother-in-law Jerry (late Mary) Parenti.

    Notes:

Laura A. Mascaro, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on October 28, 2022 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Amherst, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gino and Ida (Bindi) Parenti.
Laura was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. On April 16, 1955, she married the love of her life, Peter Mascaro, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Mr. Mascaro predeceased her on June 19, 2019 after 64 years of marriage.
Laura began her working career as a lab secretary at the Hooker Chemical Company, and later as a medical secretary for a Buffalo neurologist, Dr. Zoar. They were active members of the Estero Cove Condominium community where they developed lasting friendships.  As Laura endured health challenges, she always remained upbeat and positive. Her numerous friends and family provided a steady stream of joy, laughter and comfort to her.
Laura was a shining light to her children, grandchildren and great children. She cherished her time with each of them. She was a deeply faithful person who would often offer up her daily rosary for anyone in need. A special thank you to Tony Restaino who provided eucharistic ministry and his Sunday morning visits.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers who became family to her. They shared their lives and experiences as they took care of her, played cards and watched her favorite movies. We will be forever grateful to: Sharon, Tenisha, Queene, Taraneh, Maryann, Michele and Lexi, for the care and compassion shown to Laura and their family.
