Generation: 2

  1. 2.  QUARANTELLO, Russell George was born on 24 Jun 1960 in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY (son of QUARANTELLO, Bernardino and OLIVER, Helen); died on 10 Aug 2019 in Town of Lewiston, Niagara County, NY.

    Notes:

Our much beloved Russell George Quarantello, age 59, of Lewiston, NY, passed away unexpectedly at home on August 10, 2019.  Born on June 24, 1960 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Bernardino “Bill” Quarantello and the late Helen M. (Oliver) Quarantello.
Russ was born and raised in Niagara Falls, and later moved to Lewiston with his family. He graduated with an Electrical Technology Diploma from the former Trott Vocational High School in 1978, and with an Electrical Technology Degree from Niagara County Community College in 1980, where he met his future wife. On October 31, 1992, he married Cheryl A. (Biondi) Quarantello in St. Joseph R.C. Church, Niagara Falls, and together they raised a daughter and three sons. Everything he did was for his wife and children, and for that we will be forever grateful.
Russ was a lifelong worker since the age of 16, often working three part-time jobs simultaneously in the summers. After college, he began his career in 1981, as a technician at Viatranon Grand Island, NY, and then The Carborundum Company, in Niagara Falls. In 1983, he was accepted into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #237 Apprentice Electrician Training Program, and he began working as an electrician. He graduated to Journeyman status in 1987. Since 1997, he has been a licensed Master Electrician in the City of Niagara Falls. He was a General Foreman, Electrical Foreman, and Journeyman Electrician. He held positions on the Local #237 Executive Board, as a Board Member,  President, and most recently Business Manager for the past twelve years. In 2004 and 2005, he also worked for the U.S. Small Business Administration, traveling to the homes of those affected by hurricanes and floods, to provide disaster relief. In 2012, he was appointed to serve as a Commissioner of the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission, and has held that position for the past eight years, including as a past Chairman.
Russ was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Peters R.C. Church in Lewiston, as well as serving as a Eucharistic Minister for many years earlier at St. Joseph R.C. Church. He encouraged his family to attend mass each Sunday, primarily by his steadfast example. He was very active in his community and volunteered for many organizations including the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club, the United Way, and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He also served as a United Way Board Member. He was a devoted Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Cousin, and Friend. Get togethers for holidays, Papa Donut Days, the infamous Cousin’s Night, or a family reunion brought him so much joy. He considered his friends his extended family, and would do anything to help them out in any way he could. He was a skilled handyman. He’d stop to help anyone in need of a hand. He was very active in his children’s lives and coached many sports teams at St. Peter’s R.C. School, and many soccer teams for Niagara PAL and Niagara Pioneer. He enjoyed riding his Harley, often with his wife on the back and his friends alongside. He was a member of the LaSalle Sportsman’s Club and an avid shooter. He had a deep love for his community and his country, and was dedicated to his beliefs. He loved to make people laugh. He was the most kind, generous, and honest man;as many can attest to.
In addition to his father and wife, Russsell is survived by his children, Annina F. Quarantello, Russell B. Quarantello, Christian D. Quarantello, and William J. Quarantello; brother Bernard (Sue Reed) Quarantello, sisters Diane (Ray Roffle) Quarantello, and Jean (Tony) Pascuzzi; brothers-in-law, Joseph Sirianni, Jim (Linda) Biondi, Paul (Terri) Biondi, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and all those who called him Uncle Pumpkin. In addition to his mother, Russell was predeceased by his sister, Michele (Joseph) Sirianni; mother-in-law, Anne M. Biondi and father-in-law Raymond A. Biondi.
