    Teresa A. Polka, 60, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on July 15, 2020 at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, NY.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Byron and Patricia (Mackenzie) Schucker.
    On August 18, 1979, Teresa married Ronald J. Polka at Prince of Peace Church in Niagara Falls, NY.  She was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Hospice Care at Northgate Health Care Facility in North Tonawanda, NY for 30 years, retiring in 2019.  She enjoyed to cook and bake, and made hundreds of wedding cakes from the 1970’s to the early 1990’s for local weddings.
    In addition to her husband of 40 years, Teresa is survived by her son, Joseph (Heidi Petterson) Polka; her grandchildren, Isaiah and Amelia Polka; her siblings, Kevin (Julie) Schucker, Linda (Bob) Johnson, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins, and her "better half" Michael Montagna.  She was predeceased by an infant child, as well as her siblings, David Schucker and Michael (Veronica) Schucker.
    Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22 from 4 – 7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, where funeral services will be held at 7 PM. Due to current circumstances, social distancing and masks will be required to adhere with current regulations.  Private interment will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY at the convenience of the family.  Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.

  1. 8.  POLKA, John J was born about 1937 in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY (son of POLKA, Frank W and ZIBLUT, Josephine); died on 19 Aug 2021 in Buffalo, Erie County, NY.

    John J. Polka, 87, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on August 19, 2021 at Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Josephine (Ziblut) Polka.
    John graduated from LaSalle High School in 1952.  On June 18, 1955, John married his childhood sweetheart, Carol F. (Bartus) Polka.  Mrs. Polka predeceased him on October 16, 2017.  They were introduced at an early age by their grandparents who had immigrated to America from Poland on the same ship.  John worked in the Family Restaurant (Polka’s) and designed several motels for owners along Pine Avenue.  He designed and built the Starlite Motel on his mother’s property, which opened in 1954 and was operated for 25 years by his mother.  John was employed for 35 years with National Fuel Gas in Buffalo, NY as Junior Draftsman, Senior Draftsman, and after attending evening classes at Erie Community College to learn construction technology, was promoted to Supervisor of Surveying and retired as Manager of Surveying in 1992.  John enjoyed traveling to Western Kentucky and visiting the Grand Canyon, photography, and caring for his Yorkshire Terrier, Frankie.  Above all, he cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
    John is survived by his children, John (Julie) Polka, Jr., Ronald (late Teresa) Polka, Timothy (Kathy) Polka, and Sallyann (Glen) Cameron; his grandchildren, John (Adrienne) Polka, III, Laura (Tim) Lukasik, Joseph Polka, Renee & Natalie Polka, and Carolyn, Katherine and Jessica Arida; six great grandchildren; his brother, Walter (Victoria) Polka, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was the brother-in-law of Alice (late Louis) Zawistowski and Bettylou (late Daniel) Regueira.  He will also be missed by his Elderwood Community Friends, Sally, Nancy, Marge, Lois, Mary Louise and Mike.  In addition to his wife of 62 years, he was predeceased by his brother Frank (late Shirley) Polka.
    Private funeral services will be held for the family at the Infant Jesus Shrine in Tonawanda, NY, with Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Lewiston, NY.  If desired, memorial offerings may to the Infant Jesus Shrine, 3452 Niagara Falls Boulevard, North Tonawanda, NY 14120.  Arrangements by M.J.     Notes:

    Of the Town of Wheatfield, NY, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017, in Buffalo General Hospital.
    She was born in Hamburg, NY, on June 4, 1935, the daughter of the late Joseph S. and Sally T. [Michalek] Bartus.
    Mrs. Polka graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1953.   She  began working as a teller with Niagara County Bank and later became the administrative branch manager for the Bank of America, before retiring in 1994.     Mrs. Polka served as an election inspector at the Sanborn Fire Hall  for many years.
    She loved spending time with her family, especially making pierogies with her grandchildren and enjoyed knitting, baking, gardening and traveling.
    Mrs. Polka is survived by her husband John J. Polka, they were married on June 18, 1955, three sons John J. (Julie) Polka, Jr., Ronald (Teresa) Polka and Timothy (Kathy) Polka, one daughter Sallyann (Glen) Cameron, two sisters Alice (late Louis) Zawistowski and Bettylou (late Daniel) Regueira, sister in law of Walter (Victoria) Polka, also survived by eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
    She was the sister in law of the late Frank (Shirley) Polka.
    Her family will be present on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME,  5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY.    Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 10:30 AM at the Infant Jesus Shrine, 3452 Niagara Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, NY, with the Rev.  John Posiewala officiating.
    Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in her name to the Infant Jesus Shrine.
    Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
