OSTWALD, DAN W., age 73 of the City of Tonawanda, August 3, 2020 under the care of Hospice. Husband of 53 years to Sharon L. (nee Ensminger) Ostwald, father of Martha (Christopher) Certo and Michael Ostwald, grand-father of Grace Ostwald, Emily and Samantha Certo and great grandfather of Kenadi Ostwald, son of the late Wilbert and Virginia Ostwald. Dan was a 1964 graduate of Tonawanda High School and was a US Marine Corps Veteran. He was a Life Member of Tonawandas' Post 264 American Legion and the American Legion Band. A private visitation and Funeral Service was held with Dan's immediate family. A private burial was in Acacia Park Cemetery. Ostwald, age 92, of Tonawanda, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Schofield Residence, after a long illness. Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Edward and Elsophine (nee Broeker) Ostwald and was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII. A lifelong resident of the Tonawandas, he had been employed at Spaulding Fibre until retiring. Along with his wife, Virginia, he had operated "Ostwald's Candies" in Tonawanda for more than 50 years, and was renowned for the quality of their products. Wilbert was an avid gardener and photographer. He was the husband of the late Virginia (nee Keyes) Ostwald, who died earlier this year. He is survived by his children, Dan (Sharon) Ostwald and Phyllis (William) Schnirel. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 1-3 PM on Friday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held at 3 PM Friday. Friends invited. (nee Keyes) Ostwald, age 88, of Tonawanda, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at Schofield Residence, after a long illness. Born in Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Alice (nee Vigrass) Keyes, and had been a lifelong resident of Tonawanda. Mrs. Ostwald had been employed at the former Bells Supermarket in Amherst. Together with her husband, Wilbert, she operated "Ostwald's Candies" at their home on Linwood Avenue in Tonawanda for more than 50 years, and was renowned for the quality or her products. She is survived by her husband, Wilbert A. Ostwald; a son, Dan (Sharon) Ostwald and a daughter, Phyllis (William) Schnirel. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday only at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday. Friends invited. NORTH TONAWANDA-Edward W. Ostwald, 74, of
7057 Ward Road, Town of Wheatfield, died Monday
(April 3, 1967) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a
brief illness.
He was born in the Town of
Wheatfield and lived in this city
until 1913 before moving back
to the Town of Wheatfield. He
was a member of St. John Lutheran
Church, and St. Johnsburg
Fire Co.
He is survived by his wife,
the former Alsophine Broecken
four sons, Alvin E., and Wilbert.
A., both of the Tonawandas,
Edward A. of the Town
of Tonawanda, and Richard E.,
of Wilson; two sisters, Mrs.
Elsie Urtel, and Mrs. William
Zuch, both of the town of-
Wheatfield. Seven grandchildren
also survive. -
Funeral services will be
held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the
Fretthold Funeral Home. The
Rev. Clarence W. Rabe will
officiate. Burial will be in St.
John Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to
4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral
home.
