NIAGARA FALLS — George Joseph Sawyer, 83, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Monday, August 1, 2011. Born March 5, 1928 in Parsonville, PA, he was the son of the late John and Antonia Sawyer. He attended high school in Philipsburg, PA and was a 1945 graduate. After high school he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Washington, being honorably discharged in 1947. Soon after his discharge he came to Niagara Falls to work at Kimberly Clark with his friends from back home. Taking the advice of his future father-in-law, Leon Zasucha, he joined the Niagara Falls Police Department in 1952, where he worked for 45 years. He retired as the oldest active Patrolman in New York State where he was lovingly referred to as “The Legend”.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Zasucha) Sawyer of Niagara Falls, NY; his son, John; daughter, Christina; grandchildren, Marina and Joseph; his sister, Jean of Flushing; also several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Stephen Michael; sisters, Mariam, Sophie and Anne.

There is no prior visitation. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME, INC.

Obituary of Mary A. Sawyer
Mary A. Sawyer, 88, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Williamsville Suburban Safire Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on October 3, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Leon and Regina (Suita) Zasucha. Mary married George J. Sawyer on June 27, 1953. They were happily married for 58 years, until his passing on August 1, 2011. Mary enjoyed gardening and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.She is survived by her children, Christina (Stephen) Hansen and John Sawyer; grandchildren, Marina and Joseph; sister, Leona Scibilia. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, Stephen Hansen and sister, Genevieve Kislack.There is NO PRIOR visitation. Funeral Services & Burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY, will take place at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC.

from a wedding trip to New
York City and Washington, D.

Funeral services will be held
Thursday for Leon Zasucha,
75, of 420 22nd St.. who
died Monday (Oct. 4, 1971) in
Mount St. Mary's Hospital
after a brief illness.
Mr. Zasucha was born In
Poland and had been a resident
of this city for the last 60 years.
He was a barber for 52 years
with a shop at 1949 E. Falls St.
until his recent retirement. Mr.
Zasucha was a member of the
International Union of
America, Barbers Union 780.
Mr. Zasucha is survived by
his widow, Regina Siuta
Zasucha; three daughters,
Mrs. Genevieve Kislack, Mrs.
George (Mary) Sawyer, and
Mrs. Leona Giannone, all of
this city; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Zasucha was the
son-in-law of the late Walenty
and Regina Siuta.
Funeral services will be held
at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the
Zajac Funeral Home and at 10
a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka
Church.
Friends may call from 7 to 9
p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the
funeral home.
