Edward R Henkle, age 65, of 4021 NE 25 Ave., Lighthouse Point, Born Oct. 30, 1907 in New London, Conn. Gained his law degree in 1932 from Cornell University. He was admitted to the New London County Bar Association in 1933, a membership he still holds. He served in the Conn. State House of Representatives in 1937 and 1938. He also served as assistant prosecutor in the New London Police Court. In 1938 he was appointed assistant direct or of Law for the City of New London. On April 1, 1944 he was appointed acting city manager and on De.c 4 of that same year he was appointed permanent city manager, a post he held until the time of his retirement in Nov. 1963. He was director of the Conn. Association of City Managers and chairman of the New London War Council. He was a member of the governor's Tri-state Transportation Committee; Conn Association of Cities and Towns; United States Navy League' Kiwanis Club; Rotary Club and the Masonic Lodge. Survived by his wife, Billie; son Major Bart Henkle of the U.S.Air Force of Ogden, Utah; a daughter, Mrs. James Rice of Oakdale, Conn.; severl grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Robert Henkle of New London, Conn., and a sister, Mrs. Anthony Kimball Cooper of New York City. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the R. JAY KRAEER SAMPLE ROAD FUNERAL HOME. Friends may call 6-9 p.m.Tuesday at the Funeral home.
