    James T. Briody, age 89, of Lockport, NY died after a courageous battle with cancer on June 28, 2021. Jim was born and was raised in Lockport to Edna (Quinlivan) and Francis Briody.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William F. Briody and a great-grandchild, Kian Burke. Jim was married to the love of his life, Joan (McCormick) Briody who went to heaven on March 5, 2021. They will now be together now to celebrate 65 years of marriage on July 7, 2021
    Jim and Joan were the proud parents of 4 children, Molly (Michael) Gatto, Flourtown, Pa, Thomas Briody, San Francisco, CA, Ann (Daniel) Petock, Lockport, NY, Susan (Robert) Burke, Stuart, FL and daughter-in-law Greta Schultz, Youngstown, NY. They were proud grandparents to Meghan (Travers) Mackle, New Orleans, LA, Emily (Franziskus) Bertl, Lansdale, PA, Nicholas (Emily) Gatto, Plymouth Meeting, PA, Patrick (Melissa) Briody, Chicago, IL, Elizabeth (Courtney) McKeegan, Shaker Heights, OH, Erin (Steve) Schlegel, Ontario, NY, Kelley Petock, Rochester, NY, Shaun (Jaime) Burke, Lockport, NY, Ryan (Casey) Burke, Pittsford, NY, Katie (Justin) Lute, Lockport, NY. They were also blessed to have 17 great-grandchildren.
    Jim attended DeSales Catholic High School and University of Buffalo. Jim and Joan owned and operated Briody Health Care Facility for over 30 years and Niagara Homemakers (now Mercy Homecare) for 18 years. Jim was very involved in many business and philanthropic organizations. Included are the Knights of Columbus, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Lockport Rotary Club (President), Niagara County Mental Health Association, Niagara County Nursing Home Association (President), NY State Nursing Home Association, District 10 (Vice- President and President), Lockport Meals on Wheels (President), American College of Nursing Home Administrators (State Chapter President, Region II Vice Governor) and the Western New York Hospital Association. Jim was also appointed to the New York State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators.
    Jim was a selfless individual who valued education, his faith and above all love for his family. He and Joan were dedicated to ensuring the dignity of the residents of their facility and integrity was a keystone in both of their lives. 
    A mass of Christian burial, celebrating both Jim and Joan, will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut St. Lockport, NY at 10:00 am.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Rotary Club of Lockport, PO Box 1199, Lockport, NY 14095.

    Obituary of Joan M. Briody

    A kind, nurturing soul who spent her life caring for others, Joan Marie (McCormick) Briody, passed away March 5, 2021 at the age of 90, following a brief illness.  Joan was born April 3, 1930 in Buffalo, NY to Margaret (Elliott) and Emmett McCormick.  In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings Mary Blazer, Patricia DiCamillo, Jack McCormick, and Margaret Degan and great-grandson Kian Burke. 
    She is survived by her devout husband of 65 years, James Thomas Briody and their children Molly (Michael) Gatto of Blue Bell, PA, J. Thomas Briody of San Francisco, CA, Ann (Daniel) Petock of Lockport, NY, Susan (Robert) Burke of Stuart, FL, and daughter-in-law Greta Schultz of Youngstown, NY.  Joan is also survived by her loving grandchildren of whom she was especially proud: Meghan (Travers) Mackel, Shaun (Jaime) Burke, Ryan (Casey) Burke, Erin (Steven) Schlegel, Emily (Franziskus) Bertl, Nicholas (Emily) Gatto, Patrick (Melissa) Briody, Kathryn (Justin) Lute, Kelley Petock, and Elizabeth (Courtney) McKeegan and her 17 great-grandchildren.  She believed that her greatest accomplishment in life was her loving family.
    Joan graduated from Sisters of Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1950.  She worked at Bell Aerospace as a nurse prior to her marriage to Jim in 1956.  She and Jim owned and operated Briody Health Care Facility from 1960-1990.  In her retirement, Joan remained an active member of the Lockport community.
    Joan was incredibly selfless and was someone that was always concerned about the welfare of others and always wanted to give back to the community.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mount Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation (Lockport Memorial Hospital Campaign), 5300 Military Road, Lewiston, NY 14092 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
    The family will be holding a memorial service in the coming months.

    St. Peter's Church, Lewiston, was the setting for the
    wedding at 11 o'clock this morning of Miss Joan Marie
    McCormick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmet G. Mc-
    McCormick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett G. Mc-
    Mrs. Francis M. Briody of 424 High St. and the late Mr.
    Brlody. The marriage was solemnized by the Rev. Michael
    J. Campbell before the altar enhanced by pink roses in
    gold vases flanked by cymbodium ferns.
    Given in marriage by her father,
    the bride wore a gown of imported
    Swiss organdy, designed in tiers.
    The pointed back of the formfitted
    bodice dipped into a chapel
    train. Her veil of French illusion
    was caught to a crown of organdy
    petals. She held an heiroom
    Prayer Book, which had been car-
    ried by all the brides of the fam-
    ily, covered with white roses and
    stephanotis.
    MAID OF HONOR
    Miss Patricia M. McCormick of
    Lewiston, sister of the bride, was
    maid of honor. She wore a waltzlength
    gown of imported white
    organdy over shell pink taffeta.
    Her headpiece was of pink organdy
    petals, ahd she carried a crescent
    cascade bouquet of pink shaded
    sweetheart roses with ivy.
    Bridesmaids were the Misses
    Ann M. Mowbray, cousin of the
    bridegroom, and Mary Catherine
    Oswald, bot of Buffalo. Junior at-
    tendants were the Misses Susan M
    and Joan E. Blazer, nieces of the
    bride, of East Aurora. The gowns,
    headpieces and bouquets of the
    bridesmaids and Junior attendants
    were identical to those of the maid
    of honor.
    Richard M. Degan of Lewiston
    was best man and ushers were
    Dr. John E. McCormick of Snyder,
    borther of the bride, and Patrick
    J. Labby of Lockport.
    The All Male CUuU uf Nlagaia
    Falls sang the nuptial mass.
    For her daughter's wedding,
    Mrs. McCormick favored a pale
    pink organza princess gown with
    matching hat. Her corsage was
    of rhubrum lilies. The bridegroom's
    mother chose a yellow
    sheath gown complemented by a
    white hat and white orchid cor
    sage.
    GARDEN RECEPTION
    A wedding breakfast was served
    at the Niagara Falls Country Club
    following the ceremony, and a re
    ception was held in the garden of
    the bride's home. Strolling musicians
    provided music at the reception.
    For their wedding trip to the
    Laurentians, the bride has chosen
    a beige cotton dress with white
    accessories, complemented by a
    corsage of sweetheart roses. On
    their return, Mr. and Mrs. Briody
    will reside at 52 Remick Pkwy.
    Out-of-town guests were from
    Olean, Rochester, Washington and
    Alabama.

    Briody, 43 years old. of 424 High
    Street, president of the Buffalo-
    Lockport Transportation Company,
    died at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon
    in the Lockport City Hospital after
    an illness of two weeks.
    Mr. Briody was born in Olean
    and was educated in the schools
    there and at St. Bonaventure College.
    Alleghany. He served in the
    ??? corps two years during the
    World War but did not, go overseas.
    In 1928 he came to Lockport where
    he had since been In the trucking
    a n d transportation business. He
    was a member of B. Leo Dolan
    Post. 410. American Legion, the
    Olcott Yacht Club and St. Johns
    Church.
    Surviving are his widow. Mrs.
    Edna Briody. and two sons. William
    and James Briody of Lockport; his
    brothers, John and Thomas Briody,
    of Olean; and three sisters. Mrs.
    Albert Burroughs, of Fredonia. Mrs
    Arthur W Vossler of Eggertsville
    and Mrs. Frank Poch, Washington,
    D.C.
