    Paul H. Baker,73, of Sanborn and formerly of Ransomville, husband of Thea (Christman) Ruckh- Baker entered rest following an automobile accident. Born on November 16, 1947 in Niagara Falls, NY to his late parents Howard “Red” and Dorothy (Canfield) Baker. Paul graduated from Lew-Port High School in 1966 moving on to Cornell University graduating in 1970, he then returned to Ransomville to run the family farm, lastly, he obtained his master’s B.A degree from the University at Buffalo. Paul was the Current Executive Director of AG Affiliates, also the Current Executive Director of the New York State Horticultural Society and the Executive Secretary of the New York State Berry Grower. He has a strong passion for agriculture, he lobbied tirelessly in Albany and Washington for many causes. Paul loved his family and grandchildren, his friends, his dog, he was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed golfing. Paul was a genuine person who cared greatly about others.Surviving is his wife Thea, his children Brett Baker, Elizabeth “Liz” (David) Antonelli, Shannon (Ryan) Klar and Nicole (Tim) Baker Burkholder; his siblings Ann (James) Samplinski, Katherine (J. Anthony) Collard and Emily Baker. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Cole, Tyler, Carter, Aubrey, Avery, Emma, Jack and Ciara, many nieces and nephews and former wives, Terri Argentieri and Sharon Hill.Family and friends may call on WEDNESDAY from 3-8 PM. at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME INC. 3648 Ransomville Rd.     A driver was killed and a passenger taken to Oishei Children's Hospital after a two-vehicle collision in Cambria on Wednesday, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office said.
    The collision happened at 5:50 p.m. at the intersection of Saunders Settlement and Meahl roads.
    The Sheriff's office identified the driver as Paul H. Baker, 73, of Sanborn.
    According to the Sheriff's Office, Baker, who was driving a Toyota Camry, tried making a left turn from Meahl onto Saunders Settlement when the car was hit by a box truck traveling east on Saunders Settlement.
    The impact sent both vehicles across Saunders Settlement. They came to rest off the roadway north of the intersection, deputies said in a news release.
    Baker was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the box truck, Kristian P. Bruce of Lockport, and a passenger were treated for minor injuries at the scene. The 14-year-old passenger in Baker's car continues to recover from his injuries, according to the Sheriff's Office.
    An investigation is ongoing.

    (Lewiston) - Dorothy C. Baker, age 91, formerly of Balmer Rd., in Ransomville, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 in Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, after a brief illness.Dorothy was born February 15, 1917 in the Town of Porter, the daughter of the late Frank and Jessie (Hamblin) Canfield and was a lifelong resident until 2005, when she moved to Lewiston. She was a graduate of Wilson High School and the Kelly Business School in Niagara Falls. On October 19, 1940 she married Howard “Red” L. Baker. Dorothy had worked as a secretary to loan officers in the Power City Trust Bank for six years and in 1942 she joined her husband to develop the Baker Farms business in Ransomville, and become the office manager.She was a lifelong active member of the Ransomville United Methodist Church. Dorothy was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and embroidering.Her husband predeceased her on November 12, 1997. She is survived by her children, Ann (James) Samplinski of Grand Island, Erie County, NY, Katherine (J.     She was the widow of Elbert
    Baker who died in 1938. Mrs.
    Baker was born In England
    Dec. 4, 1873, and came to the
    United States at the age of 5.
    She was a charter member
    of the Ransomville WCTU. a
    former member of Porter
    Center Methodist Church, and
    a member of the Dickersonville
    United Methodist Church.
    She is survived by two
    daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Elberta)
    Stacy, of 3778 Ransom-
    ville Road, with whom she
    lived for 29 years, and Mrs..

    Canfield, 77, of Brayley Rd., who
    died Thursday (July 26, 1956) at
    Millard Filmore Hospital, Buffalo,
    after a short illness. .
    Mr. Canfield, a farmer and
    pioneer resident of the Town of
    Porter, was born Nov. 15, 1878, at
    Youngstown, the son of Frank H.
    and Sarah Canfield. He married
    the former Jessie Hamblin, Wilson,
    who survives him.
    In addition to his wife, he is
    survived by a daughter, Mrs. Howard
    Baker, and four sons, Donald,
    James, Carl' and Douglas. Two
    brothers, Witmer and David Canfield
    and 12 grandchildren, all of
    Ransomville, also survive.
    Services will be conducted by the
    Rev. Clarence F.French. Interment
    will be in North Ridge Cemetery.
