Colonel Deanna J. Patterson, US Army Retired, 72, passed away at her home on November 22, 2021.  She was a member of the Choctaw Nation and was proud of her heritage and service to the country. Born in Kirkland, WA, she was the daughter of the late Dean and Isobel (Gibbons) Peters.
Deanna’s father was in the US Navy and the family lived in Alaska, Washington, and Kansas.  She met her husband Percy “Pete” Patterson in Leavenworth, KS while he was in the Army and they were married on September 21, 1967.  They moved to the Tuscarora Nation and started their family soon thereafter, raising 6 children.  While raising her family, she graduated from Niagara County Community College as an RN.  She continued on to get her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree as a Nurse Practitioner from Daemen and D’Youville Colleges. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital, the Tuscarora Health Clinic, the Niagara County Jail, and the Bath Veteran’s Administration Hospital.
In 1981, she joined the US Army as a reservist.  She travelled extensively through her service, and was called to active duty for several campaigns.  She made many lifelong friends through her work and travels.  She enjoyed taking care of the elderly most of all.    She achieved the rank of Colonel and was honorably discharged from the Army in 2009.
Deanna loved writing poetry, birdwatching, gardening flowers, going to the beach, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband of 54 years, Deanna is survived by her children, Andrea (Galen) Fischer, Anjanette (Robert) Lecher, Amber Patterson, Percy (Lisa) Patterson, III, and Aaron Patterson; her grandchildren, Corey Fischer, Alix Fischer, Galyne Fischer, Isobella Lecher, Lena Lecher, Tacomah Hucks, Saege Hucks, Ryder Patterson, Kai Patterson, Ayla Patterson, Jazmyne Robins, Shia-Patterson Ground, and Arlan Patterson-Ground; her great-grandchildren, Elanynerose Hucks and Violette Hucks; her siblings, Shirley (Dave) Fairfield, Renita (late Rick) Hewlett, and Charles (Holly) Peters, as well as several sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her son, Nicholas E.B. Patterson, and her sister, Gaye (late Gerry) DeWeese.
Visitation will be held at the family home at 2122 Mt. Hope Road, Sanborn, NY 14132 on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 5 PM through Friday, November 26, where funeral services will be held at 1 PM with Pastor Donald Robinson officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will be held at Mt.
