George was a U.S. Navy and Army Reserve veteran.     Miss Naber's honor Saturday in
    the Hotel Westbrook and a kitchen
    shower was given recently by Mrs.

    Mrs. James Kelly

    Buffalonian Wades in Rapids and
    Is Swept to Death over Cataract
    Hat and Coat Left on Bank Are Identified as Belonging to George
    R. Streicher; Father Knows of No Reason for Son's Act.

    W&dlng Into the Niagara rirer, 100
    feet above the brink of the American
    falls, George R. Streicher, 217 Northampton
    street, Buffalo, was swept to
    hla death at 6.30 pjn. Saturday. The
    man was Identified through a hat and
    coat which he left on a bench on Luna
    Island, He sat on the bench for sometime
    and finally walked to the water's
    edge and waded Into the rapids after
    looking at them for a few moments,
    entering the water from the north side
    of Luna island.
    He was carried off his feet by the
    treacherous current and swept over the
    brink of the falls about 15 feet from
    the shore. A careful search of the lower
    river has failed to reveal a trace of
    the body. George Streicher, Sr.. father
    of. the dead man, was notified and
    identified the coat and hat as belonging
    to his son. In the pockets of the
    coat were papers Indicating that the
    garment was Streicher's property. The
    coat was of blue material with a white
    pin stripe and the hat was a straw
    sailor, with a blue band.
    The elder Streicher told Tracey G.
    Levee, reservation police superintendent,
    that he knew no. reason for his
    son's act. Pour persons, tourists, saw
    Streicher go to his. death. They told
    Police they had no opportunltv of stop-
    ping Streicher and that they had no
    Idea he was going t o commit suicide
    until he waded Into the swift current.
    The tourists were Mr. and Mrs. John
    Davis 23 Newcomb street, Rochester
    and J. W. Raynor and Raymond Hal-
    stead, both of Wellsburg, N.Y.
