    OBITUARY

    Of Town of Wheatfield, NY, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2022, at his home under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice.
    He was born in North Tonawanda, NY, on  February 8, 1934, a the son of the late George and Carrie (Miller) Maerten. Mr. Maerten served with the US Army.
    In 1959, he started working with his brother Donald at Maerten's Motor Service and continued operating the business until his death.
    Mr. Maerten was actively involved in the Shawnee Fire Company, serving as fire chief seven times, along with other offices in the company.  
    He was a member of the Niagara County Tractor Pullers,  the Niagara County Fire Advisor Board, the Niagara County Fire Chief Association and was an active member of the several firematic associations in the area. He enjoyed spending time with his family and taking care of his vegetable garden.
    Mr. Maerten is survived by his wife of 66 years Ann H. [Moje] Maerten, two sons James (Sue) and Thomas Maerten, two grandchildren Kevin and Andrew (Alexis) Maerten and a great-granddaughter Aubrey Maerten , also many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Donald and Clarence Maerten.
    His family will be present on Thursday from 4-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY. Memorials may be made in his name to the Shawnee Fire Company or Niagara Hospice. Visit www.rhoneyfuneralhome.com, for guest register.

    Shawnee - G. T. Maerten; 70, of 6851 Shawnee Road, died Wednesday (April 7, 1965) In Dc Graff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Maerten had been employed at the National Grinding Wheel Co. in North Tonawanda for 19 years, retiring six years ago. He was a member of Beech Ridge Free Methodist Church.
    Survivors include his widow, the former Carrie Miller; three sons, Donald, Clarence, Norman Maerten, all of town of Wheatfield; a brother, Lewis Maerten, Eggertsville; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Baer, Sanborn, and Mrs. Harold Miller, Hialeah, Fla., and four grandchildren. Friends may call at the Pike and Jones Funeral Home where services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Rev. C. Russell Vincent of Beech Ridge Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Wheatfield Cemetery, Shawnee.

    Mrs. Carrie E. Maerten, 72, of 6851 Shawnee Road, died Thursday (June 8, 1967) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after a brief illness. She was the widow of George T. Maerten who died in 1965. Born in the Town of Wheatfield on Nov. 20, 1894, she was the daughter of Henry and Maria Ensminger Miller. She had been a lifelong resident in the town and was a member of Beach Ridge Methodist Church, the Women's Missionary Society of the church and was a steward of the church. Survivors include three sons, Donald G. and Clarence A. Maerten. both of North Tonawanda, and Norman L. Maerten, Sanborn; two sisters. Mrs. Kate Weinheimer, Pendleton, and Mrs. Anna Weinheimer, North Tonawanda; a brother, George Miller, Pendleton; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pike and Jones Funeral Home, Sanborn, the Rev. C. Russell Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Wheatfield Cemetery. The family said contributions to the Beach Ridge Methodist Church Memorial Fund will be acceptable as tributes. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. at the funeral home.

    HENRY MILLER
    Henry Miller, 89, Shawnee road, town of Wheatfield, died last evening. Born in Germany, he had resided in the town the past 70 years. For 50 years he served the St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed church at Shawnee as secretary and treasurer. Surviving are two sons, George of Beach Ridge and William of North Tonawanda; four daughters, Mrs. Magdelena Flach of Shawnee, Mrs. Henry Weinheimer of Beach Ridge, Mrs. George Maerten of the town of Wheatfield and Mrs. Philip Weinheimer of North Tonawanda; 29 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Maerten, Shawnee road, and at 3:30 from the St. Paul's church. The Rev. Theodore Mayer will officiate. Burial will be in Wheatfield cemetery.

    Mrs. Maria Miller Dies at Her Home
    NORTH TONAWANDA, Aug. 25 - Maria Miller, wife of Henry Miller of the Shawnee road, died at her home Tuesday morning after a few weeks' illness, aged 71 years. She is survived by her husband, three sons, William, John and George of Shawnee, four daughters, Mrs. Adam Flack, Mrs. Henry Weinheimer, Mrs. George Maerten of Shawnee, Mrs. Philip Weinheimer of North Tonawanda; four brothers, George and William Ensminger od Shawnee, Christian Ensminger of Flint, Mich and John Ensminger of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Samuel Jones of Buffalo. Funeral services will be conducted from the late residence Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, Standard time, and from the Shawnee church at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Shawnee cemetery.
