    John D. Joensen passed away September 27, 2022 in Lockport Rehab & Health Care Center. Born May 27, 1936 in Lockport, he was the son of Anker and Gertrude (Will) Joensen. John served in the US Army from 1959 until 1961. After graduating from SUNY Brockport and getting his Masters Degree he taught for over 30 years for the Newfane Central School District. John was a life-long New York Yankees fan. He loved his 'second' home, the 1000 Islands, where he lived during the summer for over 60 years. Fishing and boating there was a big part of his entire life. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren about the history of the 1000 Islands region.
     
    John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia (Shanley) Joensen; children Molly (Jack) Kirchberger, Jr. and the late Mark Joensen; grandchildren Daniel (Millie), Alex and Ellie Joensen and Kyle, Emily (Kirchberger) Seitz and Jordan Kirchberger.   Besides his son he was also predeceased by his siblings Paul Joensen, Robert Anderson, and Joanne Darlich.
     
    Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Friday, October 14th, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport. Inurnment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Visit pruddenandkandt.com.

    Louis P. Shanley, 65, of 399
    S. Transit St., retired superintendent
    of fire alarms, died this
    morning (April 30, 1960) in the
    Veteran's Hospital in Buffalo.
    A native of Medina, Mr. Shan
    ley lived here for 58 years. He
    served with the Fire Department
    from 1935 until his retirement in
    1958. He was appointed fire alarm
    superintendent in 1956.

    An overseas Army veteran of
    World War I, Mr. Shanley was
    employed by the New York
    State Electric and Gas Corp here
    for 15 years before joining the
    Fire Department.
    He married the former Mary
    Healy on Aug. 16, 1927. Mr.
    _ was a member of St. Patrick's
    Church and its Holy Name
    Society;- the Firemen's Benevolent
    Assn. and Lockport Council
    319, Knights of Columbus. He
    was a charter member of the
    Lockport Veterans of Foreign
    Wars Post.
    An ardent football fan, Mr.
    Shanley also enjoyed fishing.
    Besides his wife, he is survived
    by six daughters, Mrs.
    Carl W. Blackley Jr., Miss Patricia
    Rose Shanley and Mrs.
    Raymond B. Coakley, all of Lockport;
    Sister M. Dominic, St. Joseph's
    Convent, Buffalo; Mrs.
    Dominic Albanese, Medina, and
    Mrs. Mauro D. Garrfalo, Elm
    hurst, Ill.; a son, David F. Shan
    ley of Lockport; a sister, Mrs
    Allen Willis of South Bend, Ind.,
    and eight grandchildren.
    Services will be conducted at
    8:30 Tuesday morning in the Tay
    lor and Reynolds Funeral Home,
    Niagara at N. Transit St., and
    at 9 in St. Patrick's Church
    Burial will be in St Patrick's
    Cemetery.

    Complications resulting from a
    fractured hip suffered seven weeks
    ago ln a fall at her home resulted
    to the death of Mrs. Maria Barrett
    Haley, 81. of 96 Caledonia St., Monday
    afternoon at Lockport City Hospital
    Mrs. Haley was a lifelong resident
    of Lockport She was educated
    to St. Patricks Parochial School
    and was a member of St. Patrick's
    Church.
    Surviving are three sisters, Mrs.
    William Donahue, Niagara Palls;
    Mrs. Claude Murphy and Mrs.
    James P. Duffy of Lockport.
    Services will be held Thursday at
    9:30 at the home and at 10 o'clock
    at St. Patrick's Church. Burial will
    be to St. Patricks Cemetery.
