Edmund E. Mielcarek Sr. “Ed” passed away peacefully on March 28, 2023 at the age of 79 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 11, 1943, in North Tonawanda, NY to Mary and Joseph Mielcarek. He was the youngest of eleven children.
Ed was a devoted husband to his wife Colleen and together they raised four children, Dawn (Jeff) Sass, Jean (Eric) Wood, Edmund (Kristen) and Chris (Courtney) Mielcarek. He was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren; Alexa, Erin, Noah, Collin, Kelsey, Kaitlyn, Emily, Camryn, Matthew, Kalib and Evan, brother of Hedy Szymanski. He cherished his family and was happiest when surrounded by them.
Ed served his country as a retired Air Force Veteran. After his service, he worked for the North Tonawanda School District for many years in the Faculties and Maintenance department until retirement.
Ed enjoyed trips to the casino and family vacations. He had a love for the show Wheel of Fortune and would always say "Wheels on!" when it aired. He also loved his dogs and was a devoted pet owner.
Ed will be remembered for his kind nature, gentle heart, sense of humor and love for his family.
Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Ed's life and honor his memory on Tuesday April 11, 2023 at Wattengel Funeral Home in North Tonawanda at 533 Meadow Drive from 4-8 P. M . A private burial where he will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery will be held on Wednesday April 12th. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be considered to Hospice of Niagara in his name to honor his memory. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Niagara for their compassionate care during Ed's final days.
