    Alan G. Ostwald

    Of Pekin, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, in Brockport, NY.  He was born in North Tonawanda, NY, on September 22, 1931, to the late George A. and Elsa M. [Buth] Ostwald.
    Alan graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1949, Concordia Teachers College, IL in 1954 and Buffalo State Teachers College, NY in 1965.  He loved his career as an elementary school teacher at Holy Ghost Lutheran School, Central Lutheran School in Indiana, Newfane Elementary, and Centre Avenue, 93rd Street, and 60th Street Schools in Niagara Falls.   He retired in 1986.
    He was an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Pekin, NY for 60 years.
    Alan loved traveling, visiting lighthouses, eating out in restaurants, and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan!
    Alan was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Betty R. [Payne] Ostwald, who passed away in April of this year.
    He is survived by his three children Paul (Maria) Ostwald, Beth (Carl) Dickinson and Lori Ostwald, six grandchildren Nicole (Mark) Thomas, John (Kristin) Ostwald, Julie (William) Webekind, Katherine (Matthew) Butch, Lia and Lin Dickinson, twelve
    great-grandchildren Zachary Marshall, Connor and Brynn Thomas, Emma and Preston Ostwald, Elizabeth, Gregory, Mary, Peter and Thomas Webekind, Joseph and Patrick Butch, two brothers-in-law Robert E. and David R. Payne, also 3 nieces and one nephew.
    There will be visitation on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 AM at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 3229 Upper Mountain Road, Sanborn, NY, where funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Kurt D. Schultz officiating.
    Memorials may be made in his name to St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
    Interment at St. Andrew Lutheran Cemetery.
    Arrangements were made through the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, Sanborn, NY.

    BETTY R. OSTWALD

    Of Pekin, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the  Hildebrandt Hospice Care, Rochester, NY.  She was born in Lockport, NY,  on May 26, 1933, a daughter of the late Elmer F. and Lena P. [Breitenbach] Payne.
    Betty was a graduate of Newfane High School.
    Her first job was selling donuts at  the Mohican Market in Lockport.  She met the love of her life Alan and they were married in 1953, then moved to Chicago.  After returning to Western New York, she began her most rewarding job as a pre-school special education associate with the Niagara Orleans BOCES for 17 years, retiring in 1993.
    Betty was an avid quilter making many full size and wall hanging quilts and was known for her handmade birthday cards.
    She will be remembered as the care-taker of her family and hosting the family events over the years.
    Betty is survived by her husband of 69 years Alan G. Ostwald, three children Paul (Maria) Ostwald, Beth (Carl) Dickinson and Lori Ostwald, six grandchildren Nicole (Mark) Thomas, John (Kristin) Ostwald, Julie (William) Webekind, Katherine (Matthew) Butch, Lia and Lin Dickinson, twelve great grandchildren Zachary Marshall, Connor and Brynn Thomas, Emma and Preston Ostwald, Elizabeth, Gregory, Mary, Peter and Thomas Webekind, Joseph and Patrick Butch, two brothers Robert E. and David R. Payne, also three nieces and one nephew.
    She was the sister of the late Marion (Robert) Woods.
    There will be visitation on Wednesday from 12-1:00 PM at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 3229 Upper Mountain Road, Sanborn, NY, where funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM, with the Rev. Kurt D. Schultz officiating.
    Memorials may be made in her name to St. Andrews Lutheran Church.

No. 6, St. Mark Athletic Club and former employee of the North Tonawanda Board of Education. He is survived by his son, Alan G. (Betty) Ostwald of Sanborn, NY., three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.     WILLIAM F. OSTWALD
    William F. Ostwald, 73 years old, died this morning at the home of his son, William F. Jr., 122 Fredericka street. Mr. Ostwald was born in Germany. For the past 45 years he resided in North Tonawanda. He was a building contractor and a member of St. Mark's Evangelical church. He leaves a wife, Johanna; five sons, William, Walter L., Arthur J., George A., Norman G.; six daughters, Mrs. John Karkau, Mrs. Arthur Vielhauer, Mrs. William Proefrock, Mrs. Albert Roeske, Mrs. Herbert Leverntz and Mrs. Adolph Gentzer. and 22 grandchildren. Rites will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late residence at at 2:30 o'clock from the St. Mark's church. Rev. Paul H. Grethold will officiate. Burial will be in Elmlawn.

    Mrs. Augusta M. Ostwald, fifty-eight years old, wife of former alderman William Ostwald, died yesterday afternoon at the Ostwald home, No. 41 Washington street, after a lingering illness. Mrs. Ostwald was born in Bergholz. She had lived in North Tonawanda for the past thirty-three years. Besides her husband she is survived by five sons, William, Jr., Walter, Arthur. George and Norman Ostwald; six daughters, Mrs. John Karkau, Mrs. Albert Vielhauer, Mrs. Albert Roeske, Mrs. Herbert Leverentz, Mrs. William Proefrock, and (Mrs.) Adolph Gentzmer, fourteen grandchildren, all of the Tonawandas; three brothers, Charles and William Stange of St. Johnsburg and August Stange of North Tonawanda, and three sisters, Mrs. Ernest Ostwald, Mrs. John Werth and Mrs. Gustav Broecker, all of the Tonawandas.

    BREITENBACH - Adam Breitenbach, Jr., 74, of 608 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1953 at his residence after a prolonged illness. Born in Germany, he resided in North Tonawanda the past 70 years. A farmer for many years, he retired 12 years ago. He was a member of Salem Evangelical and Reformed church.
