    MYRTLE'S OBITUARY

Our loving mother, Myrtle May (Ostrander) Gilreath, sadly passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the age of 92 after a long and full life. She was born and lived most of her life in Niagara Falls, NY. She was very loved and will be missed terribly. If you would like to pay your respects, friends and family may call at LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, 14304 on Wednesday, November 15 between 3 and 7 pm. Burial will be private.
Myrtle is survived by her children, Shirley Anne, Mitchell W., Charles K., Janice L. and Frances C. Gilreath and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Joel Robert (Gil) Gilreath, and her sister Ruth [Barry] Dixson.
Myrtle cared deeply for her friends and family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a caregiver to a dear friend throughout her extended illness and was a support to another at the time of that friend’s passing. When her children were young she was an active member of the LaSalle Sportsman Club Ladies’ Auxiliary, responsible for many of the children’s events.  Myrtle enjoyed reading, bowling and was an active member of a local senior’s group for many years. She learned crochet and embroidery from her mother and aunts and shared those skills with her daughters. A handmade blanket or embroidered pillowcases were frequent gifts for births or weddings. She enjoyed the outdoors, and taking long walks with her husband Gil in her neighborhood and in the mountains of North Carolina.
Before her marriage she worked in the offices of Carborundum Co.  She worked for many years at Super Duper and Jubilee Markets until she retired.
Special thanks to the staff at Schoellkopf Health Center for their care of our beloved mother. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Schoellkopf Health Center through Niagara Memorial Medical Center, or Niagara Hospice.
