    Gail A Hays
    July 21, 1934 - February 20, 2024

Gail A. (Auchmoody) Hays passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024, surrounded by family. A lifelong resident of Niagara County, Gail was born in Niagara Falls on July 21, 1934, to Doris (Beck) and Leigh Auchmoody.
She graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1952 and completed secretarial training at Bryant and Stratton College. Passionate about learning, she returned to school in her 40's and earned an associate's degree in communications from Niagara County Community College and a bachelor's in communications from Buffalo State University.
Growing up, Gail's family owned a small cottage in Youngstown where they spent their summers. It was there that she met her husband, Paul N. Hays. Gail and Paul married in April of 1955 and settled in Lewiston to raise their three children Paul Jr., Julie and Bill.
Gail was a member of the Lewiston Public Library Board of Trustees and worked for the Niagara County Mental Health Association. Gail and Paul were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston and the Youngstown Yacht Club. Additionally, Gail was a member of The Tatler Club in Niagara Falls. Gail loved photography and her photos were published by Kodak and in a traveling exhibit for AARP.
She also enjoyed sailing, golfing, traveling and genealogy. Gail and Paul spent most of their summers on their boat, Hayday, making cherished memories with their children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Gail is predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, Dr. Paul N. Hays Sr., cherished Uncle William Beck and his wife, Lucette of Niagara Falls, Aunt Florence (George) Souther and Uncle Elton (Edith) Auchmoody. She is survived by her children Paul (Linda) Hays Jr. of Youngstown, NY, Julie (Wendy) Hays of Houston, TX and William (Rachel) Hays of Swanzey, NH. She is also survived by her two sisters Ann (late Frank) Bindert of Pittsford, NY and June (late William) Oxford of Gallatin, Tennessee. She leaves behind seven grandchildren Justin (Maria) Hays, Eileen (Andrew) Hays-Bonaccolto, Hannah (Matthew) Clark, Leigh (Alexis) Hays, Joshua (Emi) Hays, Zachary Hays and Lyndon Hays and nine great-grandchildren Calvin, Julia, Colin, Cosette, Ella, Mira, Kenji, Koji and Finn.
A private service and celebration of life will be scheduled for later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Gail's family is grateful to the staff of Wheatfield Commons who cared for Gail in the final years of her life and to Niagara Hospice for their support.
