Eleanor Rutkowski, 95, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Elderwood at Grand Island. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on February 11, 1929 she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Alex) Wojtowicz. Eleanor worked for the City of Niagara Falls School district as a cook for many years, until her retirement.


She was a member the former St. Charles Borromeo Church, which merged with St. John De LaSalle Church in 2008. Eleanor was part of St. Charles & St. John's altar & rosary societies, helped clean the church and worked bingo. She was also a part of the Reunited Group, member of the NF lawn bowling & bocce leagues.


She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen (Steven) Mrzygut and Linda Skotniski; grandchildren, Michael (Susan)Skotniski, Chris (Chelsea)Skotniski, Diana (Ryan)Suitor, Kristen (Austin)Luczak, Steven (Renee)Mrzygut II and Andrew Mrzygut; great-grandchildren, Sierra Skotniski, Sydney Skotniski, Liam Suitor, Luke Suitor and great-grand cat, Hatrick. She is also survived several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Matthew W. Rutkowski; son, Matthew J. Rutkowski; brother, Edward Wojtowicz; sisters, Dorothy (Anthony) Gara, Agnes (Hayes, Carl) Messersmith Neuenfeld, and Helen Wojtowicz.


Friends may call Sunday, March 17th from 2-4 PM at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC., 319 24th Street, Niagara Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 AM on Monday, March 18th at St. John De LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment following in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, Lewiston, NY. In Lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094-1231 or to the Niagara County SPCA, 2100 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.

Mrs. Ethel Alex, 47 y e a r s old, 627
T w e n t y - f i ft h street, died in Mount St
M a r y s hospital yesterday, following
a short illness from kidney trouble.
Mrs. Alex has been a resident of Ni-
a g a r a Falls for 17 y e a r s . She w a s
born in Lithuania and came to this
country 29 y e a r s ago.
Her h u s b a n d . W i l l i am Alex, disap-
peared about three years ago and no
word has been heard of him since. At
the time of his disappearance. Falls
police conducted a search for him in
this and other cities. He is still
thought to be alive. however. and
members of the family are hoping he
will r e t u r n home w h e n he h e a r s of
his wife's death.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Alex is
survived by t h r e e sons. William. Joseph
and Stanley, and two daughters,
Mary and Anna, all a t home.
The funeral will be held from the
family home on Wednesday morning
a t 10 o'clock. Service at St. George's
church, Nineteenth and East Falls
s t r e e t s , will be conducted by t h e Rev.
F a t h e r Dyknes. Interment will be in
Holy Trinity cemetery
