    Duane Carl Witkop, age 79 of North Tonawanda, NY, was called peacefully to his heavenly home, to be with his Lord and Savior, on June 10, 2024 at the Northgate Health Care Facility, Wheatfield, NY. Born in Lockport, NY on February 17, 1945; son of the late Norman and Norma (Masters) Witkop. A graduate of Starpoint High School, Erie Community College, and Niagara University, earning his Master's Degree in education. Duane taught mathematics in the Niagara Falls School District for approximately 30 years, retiring in 1999. To remain active, he then worked at Home Depot, Amherst location. Duane was a life long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, in North Tonawanda, where he served on the finance committee nearly 50 years. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and comedian, with his outgoing personality. He had a reputation of helping others that were in need, throughout his life.Survivors include his devoted wife, Claudia (Engel) Witkop; three loving children, Darryl (Vicky) Witkop, Laurie (Thomas) Westbrook, and Bradley (Kim) Witkop; two sisters, Joan Adams and Rita Burns; six grandchildren, Ashley Bruce, Chelsea Witkop, Derek Westbrook, and Megan Westbrook; and a great-granddaughter, Everly Bruce.Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Thursday (June 13) from 4-8 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Bill Novack, on Friday (June 14) at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 453 Old Falls Boulevard, North Tonawanda, NY 14120. Interment will take place in the Wheatfield Cemetery.

    Norman "Jack" Witkop, 73, of Lockport Road, a retired Niagara County highway maintenance supervisor, died Wednesday (Aug. 21, 1996) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda.
    Born in Cambria, he moved to Wheatfield in 1945.
    He served in the Army during World War II.
    He was employed by the Niagara County Highway Department for 351/2 years as a highway maintenance supervisor until retiring in 1984.
    Witkop was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda.
    He was a charter member of Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion, and a charter member of the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company and its Benevolent Association.
    He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Norma R. Masters; a son, Duane of North Tonawanda; two daughters, Rita Warszawski of North Tonawanda and Joan Adams of Niagara Falls; two brothers, James and Robert, both of North Tonawanda; and two sisters, Evelyn Maerten and Edith Strothmann.
    A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Old Falls Boulevard, North Tonawanda. Burial will be in Wheatfield Cemetery.

    NORMA R. WITKOP, age 94 of Wheatfield, NY, was called to her heavenly home on April 26, 2019 while at the Northgate Health Facility. Born in the Town of Wheatfield on September 10, 1924; daughter of the late James and Grace (Nerber) Masters. Norma graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1942, and was employed at Starpoint Central School, in the cafeteria, as a cooks helper for several years. Norma was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, and a former member of the American Legion Wheatfield Post 1451.
    Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Norman "Jack" Witkop; a loving companion, Gilford Verhagne; three sisters, Muriel (Leonard) Winter, Evelyn (Eugene) Lilac, and Marie (Milton) Haseley; and two brothers, Melvin and Everett (Arline) Masters.
    Survivors include her loving children, Duane (Claudia) Witkop, Rita Burns, and Joan Adams; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
    Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Tuesday (April 30) from 4-7 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Ernest Green, at 7:00 p.m. following visitation. Interment will be in the Wheatfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 453 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, NY 14120.

    SANBORN - Benjamin A. Witkop, 71, of 3045 Upper Mountain Road, this community, died Thursday (June 11, 1964) in Mount View Hospital, Lockport, after a long illness. Born in the Town of Cambria, March 17, 1893, the son of Henry and Augusta Grossman Witkop, he lived all his life on the farm where he was born until the death of his wife, Veronica Gombert Witkop, two years ago. Since that time he made his home with his children. He was employed by the State Highway Department for 20 years and retired eight years ago. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Philip Martin and Mrs. William Strothman. both of this community; six sons, Wilbert, Robert, Norman and Kenneth Witkop, this community. Erwin Witkop, Niagara Falls, and James Witkop, North Tonawanda, two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Stoelting and Mrs, Lydia Eggert and a brother George Witkop, all of North Tonawanda; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Pike and Jones Funeral Home,Hoover Road, this community, where services will be conducted at 4:30 p.m., Sunday by Rev. Enno Schmoock. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery. The family will be present from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

    PEKIN - Mrs. Veronica Alma Witkop, 67, of Upper Mountain Road, died today (March 9, 1962) at Mt. View Hospital, Lockport, after a lengthy illness. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, Aug. 8, 1895, Mrs. Witkop was a daughter of Ferdinand and Bertha Gombert. She lived in this area for 50 years. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda. Surviving are her husband, Benjamin A. Witkop; two daughters, Mrs. Philip (Evelyn) Maerten and Mrs. William (Edith) Strothmann, both of Sanborn; six sons, Wilbert, Erwin, Norman, Robert and Kenneth Witkop all of Sanborn,and James Witkop, North Tonawanda; two sisters, Mrs. Elmer Mielke, Sanborn, and Mrs. Edward Moll, St. Johnsburg; 14 grandchildren and one-great-grandchild.     A delightful afternoon and evening
    was spent at the home of Mr. and
    Mrs. Arthur Gombert of Niagara
    street. Sunday, when they entertained
    for Mrs. Wilhelmina Schlmschack the
    occasion being her 84th birthday and
    also for Mr. and Mrs. Ben Wittkopp
    of Pekin. it being their wedding anniversary-
    Supper was served at 6 o'clock to
    20 guests. The table was centered
    with a birthday and a wedding cake,
    handsomely decorated. During the
    evening cards and music were enjoyed.
    Ben Wittkopp acted as toastmaster.
    Many pretty and useful gifts
    were presented to Mrs. Schlmschack.
    Out-of-town guests were present.

    Edward C. Engel Dies; 50 Years Falls Resident

    A 50-year resident of Niagara Falls. Edward C. Engel, 76. of 6200 Edgewood drive, died yesterday in Buffalo after a long illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Redanz Funeral home, with the Rev. Grover Gordon, St. Catharines. Ont.. officiating. Burial will be in the Riverdale cemetery.Mr. Engel was the widower of Mrs. Fannie Engel, who died two yeas ago Sons James M. Engel and John E- Engel, both of this city, and Joseph F. Engel, Chicago, survive as does a sister. Mrs. Josephine Karr, Chicago, He was employed 35 years as a paper maker by. the Cliff Paper company, which formerly had a plant in this.city.

    The marriage of Miss Annie Considine and Mr Edward C. Engel, was solemnized at half after seven o'clock at St. Mary's church this morning. The marriage was performed by the Reverend Felix Schullin. Miss Annie Ryan was maid of honor and Mr. F. Le Ferve of New York city, acted as best man. Fllowing the ceremony at the church a wedding breakfast was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Porter in Buffalo avenue. Miss Considine is a niece o Mr. Michael Donahue of First street.
