Rev. Earnest M. Hulsey, 77, of 35303 Rock Camp Road, New Matamoras, Ohio died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at his home.


He was born at Townley, Alabama on July 1, 1929 a son of the late Solan Madison and Lura Lee Keeton Hulsey.


Earnest was a retired school teacher for the Switzerland of Ohio School District having taught at Graysville, Bethel, Midway and Laings Schools. He was also a retired minister and member of the Neuhart Baptist Church near Woodsfield, Ohio. He had also formerly served as a minister at the Byesville First Baptist Church, Byesville, Ohio, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Logan, Ohio, Unity Baptist Church near Antioch, Ohio and the Gravel Hill Baptist Church at Fly, Ohio. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War; a former Monroe County Commissioner; former administrator of MR/DD in Monroe County; former President of Buckeye Hills; former President and member of the Monroe County Board of Health; a member of the V.F.W. Post 6387, New Matamoras, Ohio and had taught hunter safety classes for many years.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Marie Jones; one brother, Buddy Hulsey and two sisters, Iva McCreary and Willie Lawson.


Surviving are his wife, Harriet M. Lantz Hulsey whom he married on October 21, 1951; three daughters: Jane (Brad) Miller of Wingett Run, Ohio, Karen (Steve) Gray of Westerville, Ohio and Valerie (Bob) Burch of Silver Springs, Maryland; two sons: Earnest P. (Dianna) Hulsey of New Matamoras, Ohio and Phillip B. (Shelley) Hulsey of Sardis, Ohio; three sisters: Irene Savage of Pleasant Hills, California, Lonell Soos of Orange Park, Florida and Ima Lee of Haleyville, Alabama; three brothers: Robert, Solan and Lee P. Hulsey all of Camp Verde, Arizona; a son-in-law: Albert Jones of Anchorage, Alaska; 19 grandchildren; five great grandchildren.


Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday with Phillip B. Hulsey officiating. Burial will follow in the Neuhart Baptist Cemetery near Woodsfield, Ohio with full military graveside services.
