    Austin B. "AB" Youmans, 77, Avon, formerly of Punta Gorda, FL. passed away at 5:25 a.m., Wed., March 5, 2003 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Sat., March 8 at Paterson Cemetery, St. Joseph, IL. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Fri., March 7 at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand St., St. Joseph, IL. Mr. Youmans was born October 6, 1925 in St. Joseph, IL., the son of Austin B. and Myrtle Cole Youmans. He married Jeannette Matthew on August 21, 1948 in Remington, IN. She survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Austin Youmans of Athens, OH. and Dan (Barbara) Youmans of Gainesville, VA.; 2 daughters, Dianne Youmans of Avon, In. and Jeanne Ann Youmans of Parker, Co.; 2 granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother. Mr. Youmans was a veteran of the Navy, serving in WWII. He attended the University of Illinois, becoming a life member of the Alumni Association. He began a 37-year-career in research and development at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, D.C. When he retired in 1988, he was a consultant to NRL's Tactical Electronic Warfare Division. For 16 years, he was the resident scientist at their field station at NRL Sugar Grove, WV. He was also interested in Genealogy and was a life member of the Champaign County, the Illinois and the Charlotte County, FL. Genealogical Societies.     AVON, Ind. -- Austin B. "AB" Youmans, 77, Avon, Ind., formerly of Punta Gorda, FL. died at 5:25 a.m., Wednesday (March 5, 2003) at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.

    Mr. Youmans was born Oct. 6, 1925, in St. Joseph, a son of Austin B. and Myrtle Cole Youmans. He married Jeannette Matthew on Aug. 21, 1948 in Remington, Ind.. She survives.

    Also surviving are two sons, Austin Youmans of Athens, Ohio, and Dan Youmans of Gainesville, Va.; two daughters, Dianne Youmans of Avon, Ind. and Jeanne Ann Youmans of Parker, Colo.; and two granddaughters.

    He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

    Mr. Youmans was a World War II Navy veteran. He attended the University of Illinois and was a life member of the alumni association. He had a 37-year career in research and development at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. and retired in 1988 as a consultant to the tactical electronic division. He was the resident scientist at the field station in Sugar Grove, W,Va., for 16 years.

    He was a life member of the Champaign County and Illinois genealogical societies and the Charlotte County, Fla. genealogical society.

    AVON – Jeannette Youmans, 91, Avon, formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday (Nov. 10, 2017) at the Springs of Mooresville, Mooresville, Ind.

    She was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Wolcott, Ind., the youngest of seven children of Alfred Mathew Jr. and Florence Eck Mathew. She was a 1944 graduate of Wolcott High School; she entered the Mercy School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse in 1947. She was married to the late Austin B. Youmans for 54 years.

    Sharing an interest in genealogy, she and her husband were life members of the Charlotte County, Fla., Genealogical Society; as members, they published cemetery books, placing copies in several Florida libraries as well as the Library of Congress. They also published on ancestry book, placing copies in the Illinois and Indiana libraries.

    In addition to her parents and her husband, Jeannette was preceded by her brothers, Eugene, George, Edward and Thomas; and her sisters, Sister Esther Mathew and Julia Byron.

    She is survived by her children, Austin, Dan (Barbara), Dianne and Jeanne Ann (Michael) Walz; granddaughters, Callie and Erika Youmans; and her nieces and nephews.

    A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at Patterson Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation will be held at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday prior to the graveside services.

    WOLCOTT - Fred Mathew, 81, retired farmer, died at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Champaign, Ill. He had suffered a heart attack Saturday.
    He was born here and spent all his life in this community. He was married to Florence Eck, who died in 1958. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Remington.
    Surviving are three sons, Ralph of Remington, Edward of Lafayette, and George Alfred of Seattle, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Raymond Byron of Rensselaer, Mrs. A. B. Youmans of Ft. Seybert, W. Va., and Sister Mary Florence of Champaign, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Mina Belisle of Bourbonnais, Ill., and Mrs. Gordelia (sic) Guimond of Manteno, Ill., and four brothers, Meddie of Mission, Tex., Oscar, Clarence and Arthur, all of Wolcott.

    MRS. ALFRED MATHEW

    WOLCOTT - Mrs. Florence (Eck) Mathew, 71, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday in Mercy hospital, Urbana , Ill., where she had been a patient since Tuesday.
    Born in Jasper county, she married Alfred Mathew in 1907. For 50 years they had made their home at the present address, southeast of Wolcott. She was a member of the Remington Sacred Heart Catholic church.
    Surviving are the husband; three sons, George of Seattle, Wash., Edward of Fowler and Ralph of Wolcott; three daughters, Mrs. Julia Bryon of Rensselaer, Mrs. Jeanette Youmans of Washington, D.C., and Sister Mary Florence of Urbana; and two sisters, Mrs. Oscar Mathew of Wolcott and Mrs. Helen Samuel of Gary.

    Mrs. Anna (Lebow) Mathew, 78, widow of the late Alfred Mathew, and a resident of Remington, died Friday evening at 8:30 o'clock at St. Elizabeth hospital, in Lafayette where she had been a patient since Dec. 5. Born in St. George, Ill., on July 6, 1860, she was married to Mr. Mathew 62 years ago. or many years they lived on a farm south o Wolcott, and after Mr. Mathew's death, she went to Remington live. She was a member of the Sacred Hert Catholic church at Remington. She leaves 11 children, Levi, Alfred, Williaf, Oscar, Arthur, Amos, Clarence and Herman, all of Wolcott; Meddie, of Chicago; Mrs. Mina Belisle, of St. George, Ill., and Mrs. Cordelia Guimond, Menteno, Ill.
    Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the Sacred Heart church, Remington. Burial in the Catholic cemetery at Remington.
