An autopsy will be performed today at Mount St. Mary's HHospital to determine the cause of death of William H Seip, 70, of 4659 Creek Road, Town of Lewiston, who was fatally injured while crossing Creek Road to get his mail late Thursday afternoon.

Coroner Oscar H Bell pronounced Mr. Seip dead at the scene of the accident. Niagara County sheriff's deputies said Mr. seip was struck by a car driven by Mrs. Sandra J. Shrimpton, 26, of 4371 Creek Road, Town of Lewiston.

Mrs. Shrimpton told deputies that she was traveling south in the Creek Road when she saw a dark object appear in the road. She said she tried to avoid hitting the object by swerving to the left, but the collision occurred.

She told the deputies that she knew she had struck an object, but that she could not stop at the accident scene.

She said she continued south into Lewiston, where she called police from the Frontier House.

Mrs. Seip was sitting in the family car which was parked in the driveway of their home when the accident occurred. She told deputies that Mr. Seip had just left the car and was crossing the road to get the mail when the accident occurred,. She said Mr. Seip was in front of the mailbox at the time of the accident.

Sheriffs deputies found Mr. Seip about 50 feet down the road from the mailbox and about eight feet from the shoulder of the road.

Coroner Bell said today that Mr. Seip died almost immediately after the accident.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Department has impounded the Shrimpton auto and deputies are continuing the investigation of the accident.

Investigating the accident Thursday were Sgt. Raymond Sionko and Deputies Ronald Lucarini and John Kenney.

Born in Forest Junction, Wis., Mr. Seip lived in the town of Lewiston for the last 10 years. Prior to that, he lived in Niagara Falls for 15 years.

He was employed as a scheduler at Textron's Bell Aerosystems Co. for 15 years before retiring seven years ago. He was a veteran of World War I.

In addition to his widow, Mr. Seip is survived by two sons, William Seip, of this city, and Edward Seip, of Eggertsville; one daughter, Mrs. Richard Hall, of Niagara Falls, Ont.; one brother, Irvin Seip, of West Bend, Ind., and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday at the lane Funeral Home at a time to be announced. Durial will be in St.. Vincent dePaul Cemetery, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.
