William "Bill" LaGue age 92, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at his residence.
Born in Fowler, IN, he was a son of the late Elmore and Ula LaGue. Bill was a WWII veteran with the Army Air Corps. He retired from the Government Printing office after 32 years of service. He was a member of American Legion, DAV, and the Knights of Columbus. After moving to Surfside Beach in 1978, Bill became active in Civic Projects. He organized the Grand Strand Patriotic Alliance in 1980, served as President of Surfside Beach Civic Association, served as first Chairman of the Surfside Clean City Committee, and served 17 years on Surfside Planning and Zoning Commission. In 1998 he received the Santee Cooper- WPDE Award, recognizing community service for volunteering and helping disabled veterans in the community.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Vera LaGue; two sisters, Joan Douglas of Indianapolis, IN and Elizabeth List of Knoxville, TN; four daughters and husbands, Carol and Tom Fox, College Park, MD, Judy and Tom Simpson, Crofton, MD, Susan and Ron Humphries, Laurel, MD and Teresa and Greg Johnson, Surfside Beach, SC; thirteen grandchildren; ten of MD and three of Surfside Beach, Matthew, Lisa and Laura Johnson; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. Michael Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Vera M. LaGue age 93, died Friday, June 02, 2017 at her residence.

Born in Wolcott, IN, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Malina Mathew.

Vera was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

She was a Civil Service employee for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, William LaGue; grandson, William “Billy” Fox and brothers, Laverne Mathew and Vincent Mathew.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Carol Fox (Tom) of College Park, MD, Judith Simpson (Tom) of Crofton, MD, Susan Humphries (Ronald) of Laurel, MD and Teresa Johnson (Greg) of Surfside Beach; 12 grandchildren, John, Michael, Tricia, Mary, Kelly, Tommy, Jimmy, Brian, Diane, Matthew, Lisa and Laura; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Alvin Mathew of WI; 2 sisters, Evelyn McGraw and Velma Nagel both of IN.

A mass of Christian burial will be said at 1:00 PM Monday, June 5, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Mausoleum.

Mrs. Anna Mathews Dies Friday Morn

Mrs. Anna (Lebow) Mathew, 78, widow of the late Alfred Mathew, and a resident of Remington, died Friday evening at 8:30 o'clock at St. Elizabeth hospital, in Lafayette where she had been a patient since Dec. 5. Born in St. George, Ill., on July 6, 1860, she was married to Mr. Mathew 62 years ago. or many years they lived on a farm south o Wolcott, and after Mr. Mathew's death, she went to Remington live. She was a member of the Sacred Hert Catholic church at Remington. She leaves 11 children, Levi, Alfred, Williaf, Oscar, Arthur, Amos, Clarence and Herman, all of Wolcott; Meddie, of Chicago; Mrs. Mina Belisle, of St. George, Ill., and Mrs. Cordelia Guimond, Menteno, Ill.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the Sacred Heart church, Remington. Burial in the Catholic cemetery at Remington.
