    the death of John
    87, a Niagara Falls native who
    was vice president, treasurer
    and director of Acheson
    Graphite Co. until it was
    dissolved in 1944.
    Mr. Deringer, who was born
    here Nov. 22, 1882, the eldest
    son of John W. and Margaret
    Wagner Deringer, died i n
    Kintnersville, Pa. Jan. 8, 1970.
    Surviving are a daughter,
    Mrs. Griselda Plater o f
    Kintnersville; a grandson, and
    a sister, Mrs. William G.
    Smale, Niagara Falls.
    Mr. Deringer dictated facts
    about himself to a local law
    office in 1967.
    He noted he went to grammar
    school from the age of 6 to
    13.
    During the Grover Cleveland
    administration his father, a
    carpenter, could not find work
    and since the family drew the
    line at applying to the county
    relief officer, he went to work
    as an office boy at the Carter-
    Crume Co., which is now Moore
    Business Forms Inc.
    He was engaged at $2.50 a
    week and almost at once
    started at night school studying
    accounting and shorthand. A
    short time later he was put
    in charge of the Carter-Crume
    order department.
    Three years later he applied
    to the new Acheson Graphite
    Co. and he said that because
    the delivery of equipment was
    late, for two months he and
    the son of the furnace man
    worked s e p a r a t i n g carborundum
    from graphite for
    test purposes.
    A Mr. Collins, who was in
    charge, had to let him go but
    promised he would be given a
    job back if he needed one.
    He next applied to t he
    Niagara Silver Co. got a job
    as office boy and a few months
    later was made an aide to the
    bookkeeper and another boy
    was hired to take his place.
    "After five years of poor
    wages, I finally decided that
    wages would be slow unless I
    joined the Baptist Church," he
    said.
    At the age of- 21, in the year
    1904, he rejoined Acheson.
    He became assistant to Frank
    Coe, the treasurer, and when
    Acheson Oildag Co. was formed
    he was asked by Dr. Acheson
    if he cared to move to Port
    Huron, Mich.
    Mr. Deringer became
    treasurer of the new company
    and in 1912 he became a member
    of a delegation going to
    London to open a new Acheson
    office. He was named secretary
    to the company with the duty
    of treasurer in England.
    In 1925 Mr. Deringer became
    company treasurer in New York
    City.
    In 1944 the Acheson Corp.
    was dissolved "for President
    Roosevelt was planning to adopt
    a much higher tax on intercorporate
    dividends than previously,
    which would hit us very
    hard for all the dividends the
    family owned passed through
    our funds."
    Be was vice p r e s i d e n t ,
    treasurer and director of
    Acheson at the time.

    Mrs. Margaret Deringer, wife of John W.
    Dennger, died at her home No. 29 Elm
    street at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.
    For over a year she had been an invalid and
    her death was the result of paralysis of the
    brain. She was born in this city and, with
    the exception of a two years residence in
    Toledo, has always made it her home. Her
    maiden name was Margaret Wagner and she
    was a daughter of Mrs. Rosena Wagner of
    Ontario street. She was 31 years old and
    leave a husband and four sons. Tho funeral
    will occur from the residence at 2 p. M. Sunday
    and from the German Lutheran church
    at 2:30 P. M.

    When I found out via a postcard German town might be Laichingen I wrote
    to the Evang. Church and got page of info.

    6)Frederick John Wagner - burial stone says Frederick. I never could
    find Frances. She probably remarried.

    7)Chistuff/Christopher John Wagner b.1 Mar.1874 d.31 May 1945 Bachelor.
    Move to Ca in 1910. I have the cemetery info.

    Rosina Wagner, Barbara McGahey, Frederick Wagner all buried on same lot.
    David McGahey is buried in Canada.

    B) I have be looking for the birth of Jungs for about 50 years. The
    original church built about 1867 burned and was destroyed. The women who
    kept the records died and no body knows what happened to them.

    Lizzie Wagner is married to William Walker. She died 20 June 1895, age
    about 38. I have checked the Jungs I sent you Sat. and I am beginning to
    think records are not part of the Mormon records and the German man went
    to the place in Bavaria where such records are kept.

    Notes:

    Listed as Mary Merringer in 1910 census living with daughter, Barbara. Shows immigration in 1852.
    1900 Census lists Rosina Merringer with husband Michael - shows married 46 years and had 10 children with 2 children living. This would put her original marriage at 1854 which would mean she married Johannes Wagner in the United States. Also in 1900 shows her immigration date as 1853.

    A resident of Niagara Falls for sixty
    years passed away yesterday In the
    death, of Mrs. Rosine Merringer at the
    home- of her daughter. Mrs. Barbara
    McGahey. 451 Eleventh street. She was
    79 years old and death was d u e to old
    age.
    mrs. merringer was born in Ritten-
    berg, Germany. She came to Niagara
    Falls in 1852 and had resided here ev-
    er since. Surviving her are a son,
    Christopher Wagner, of Pasadena, Cal.,
    a daughter, Mrs. Barbara McGahey,
    of this city, two brothers and two sis-
    ters, John Baum of this city, is a bro-
    ther, Mrs. Elizabeth Young of Grand
    Island, is a sister. The other relatives
    reside in Germany
    The funeral will be held from 451
    Eleventh street on Sunday afternoon
    at 2:30 o'clock. The burial will be
    Oakwood Cemetery.
