OBITUARY

Neil I. Pokelwaldt of Sanborn, NY, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020, in the Newfane Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.   He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on March 22, 1929, a son of the late Irving and Eleanor [Wendt] Pokelwaldt.
Mr. Pokelwaldt graduated from Trott Vocational High School.
He was a plant security guard at the East Delevan Chevrolet Engine Plant for over 20 years before retiring and operated his own farm.
Mr. Pokelwaldt was an Exempt Member of the Sanborn Fire Company and  avid sportsman.
He was the husband of the late Helen A. [Wilcox] Pokelwaldt .
Mr. Pokelwaldt is survived by three daughters Deborah A. (late Patrick) Barry, Linda Pokelwaldt and Sharon R.(Neil) Harvey, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Wesley Pokelwaldt and Neil Pokelwaldt, Jr., grandfather of the late Dean Barry,  brother of the late Jean (Ronald) Coleman and Ruth (Robert) Wray.
His family will be present on Tuesday from 4-8 PM  at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY.
Private inurnment will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Town of Cambria, NY.

SANBORN - Irving H. Pokelwaldt, 74, of 5874 Baer Road died Saturday (June 9, 1979) in the Buffalo General Hospital. He was a native of Niagara Falls and had resided in the Sanborn area since 1920, where he had operated a farm. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Niagara Falls. He is survived by a son, Neil I. Pokelwaldt of Sanborn; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Jean) Coleman and Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Wray, both of Sanborn; a brother, Norman Poklewaldt (sic) of North Tonawanda; and a sister, Mrs. Clarence (Erma) Haseley of Bergholtz. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Edward Poklewaldt (sic). Funeral services will be at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Daniel Otto officiating. Burial will be in the Wheatfield Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church Home of Buffalo, the family said.

Irving married WENDT, Eleanore Emma Lizzie on 18 Jun 1927 in St Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn, New York. Eleanore (daughter of WENDT, Christian Friedrich Wilhelm and KOEPPEN, Louise W) was born on 28 Feb 1904 in Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County, NY; died on 9 Oct 1968 in Sanborn, Niagara County, NY. SANBORN - Eleanor Pokelwaldt, 64, of 5844 Baer Road, Sanborn, died Wednesday (Oct. 9, 1968) at the Fairchild Nursing home, Lewiston, where she. had been a patient for the last two weeks.
She was a native of the Town of Lewiston and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls.
Survivors include her husband Irving; a son, Neil; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Jean) Coleman and Mrs. Robert (Ruth Wray. both of Sanborn; two brothers, Benjamin Wendt of Sanborn, and Philip Wendt of Bergholtz; four sisters, Mrs. Albert Pills, Mrs. John Mehls, both of Niagara Falls, and Mrs. Alexander Doan of Niagara Falls, Ont., and Mrs. Stanley Speck of Chicago, and 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Pike and Jones Funeral Home, Hoover Road, here. The Rev. Walter Schultz, of Grace Lutheran. Church, wi1l officiate. Burial will he in Wheatfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Was he HERMANN POECKELWALD listed as age 7 came with mother in 6/14/1884 on ship POLYNESIA from Hamburg?? If so, mother was Marie - age 31 - other children with her were Marie age 11 months, Ferdinand age 2 months

H. W. Pokelwaldt Fatally Stricken
TONAWANDA -Herman W. Pokelwaldt, 82, of 60 Cleveland Ave., died unexpectedly early today (Oct. 26, 1956) after suffering a heart attack at the Columbus-McKinnon Chain County, where he was employed. City firemen administered oxygen and took Mr. Pokelwaldt to DeGraff Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Born in Germany, Mr. Pokelwaldt formerly resided at Walmore before moving to this city 19 years ago. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Johnsburg. Surviving are his wife, Adelaide Winke (sic) Pokelwaldt; three sons, Irving Pokelwaldt, Lockport, Edward Pokelwalt, (sic) Niagara Falls, and Norman Pokelwaldt, North Tonawanda; a daughter, Mrs. Clara Haseley, Bergholtz; two stepsons, Arthur Schmeichel, Buffalo, and Wilbert Schmeichel; this city; a stepdaughter. Mrs. Donald Black. this city; a brother, Ferdinand Pokelwaldt, Medina; and a sister, Mrs. Anna Heinaman (sic), Buffalo. The Rev. J. Walter Theimeck will conduct services at. 2 p.m. Monday at the Ramp Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

#2 SANBORN WOMAN DIES
Mrs. Louise Wendt Succumbs After Illness In Falls Hospital.
SANBORN, Aug. 6.-Mrs. Louise Wendt, 63 years old, of the Saunders Settlement road, died at Memorial hospital, Niagara Falls late yesterday afternoon, following a brief illness. She is survived by her husband, Christopher, and a large family. The funeral will be held from St. Peter's Lutheran church at Walmore at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon. Burial will be at Walmore.

Schultz of North Tonawanda and Esther at home. Funeral from the family residence Tuscarora Road, Tuesday, Jan 29th, at 2 p.m. Burial in Shawnee, N. Y. Mr. Wittcopp served through the Civil War as corporal in Co. H, 20th Regiment,. U. S. Infantry.

CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES AT FAMILY HOME IN TUSCARORA ROAD
Christian F. Wittcopp Changed Spelling of Name in Order to Enlist.
Christian F. Wittcopp, 81 years old, one of the few remaining Civil War veterans of the town of Niagara, died Saturday afternoon at the family home in the Tuscarora road. Funeral services will be held from the home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Edward Graubau (sic), of the Walmore church, will officiate. Interment will be in Shawnee cemetery.
At the outbreak of the Civil War Mr. Wittcopp tried to enlist on several occasions but each time was told that he was too young. He was a large boy for his age and finally decided to conceal his identity by changing the spelling of his name and his address. The name was originally spelled Wittkopp but he changed the "k" to a "c" and told the recruiting officer he came from Canada. He had retained the changed spelling of his name ever since. He enlisted in Company H. 20th, Regiment, U. S. Infantry, and soon became a corporal. He participated in many engagements and at the close of the war was given an honorable discharge. He is survived by three sons, Albert, of Cambria; Henry, of Bergholtz, and Philip, of the town of Niagara; and three daughters, Mrs. William Camann, of Niagara. Falls; Mrs. William Schultz, of North Tonawanda, and Miss Estelle Wittcopp, of the Tuscarora road, with whom he made his home.

SERVICES FOR VETERAN
Last Rites for C. F. Wittcopp, Soldier in Civil War, Held at Home.
SANBORN, Jan. 30-Funeral services, for Christian F. Wittcopp, 81, one of the few remaining Civil war veterans of the town of Niagara, who died Saturday at the family home in the Tuscarora road, were held from the home yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Edward Graubau (sic), of the Walmore church, officiated. Interment was in Shawnee cemetery. The bearers were Raymond Schultz, Norman Pockelwaldt, Arthur Wittcopp, Erwin Pockelwaldt, Clarence Wittcopp and Edward Pockelwaldt. Mr. Wittcopp served throughout the Civil war. His loss is mourned by a wide circle of friends and relatives
