  1. 1.  MAY, Edith was born on 16 Feb 1920 in Boston, Erie County, NY (daughter of MAY, Nicholas and NEEDHAM, Jessie); died on 31 Oct 2009 in Fairfield, Butler County, OH.

    Notes:

Edith (May) Neumann, 89, long time resident of Niagara Falls, died on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Fairfield, Ohio. Born on February 16, 1920 in Boston, NY, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Jessie (Needham) May. Edith grew up in a farming community in Boston and after graduating from high school she attended Millard Fillmore School of Nursing in Buffalo where she obtained her certification as a registered nurse. On June 15, 1946, Edith married Oscar E. Neumann and upon his return from World War II they set about having a family. Edith and Oscar had two children – a son Craig and daughter Barbara. While raising her family, Edith worked in a variety of settings in a meritorious nursing career, spanning over 40 years, including a private practice and at St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. She finished her career as an industrial nurse for the Union Carbide Company in Niagara Falls. Edith enjoyed family vacations and social activities with friends and neighbors. She was especially fond of partnering with her sister Florence in organizing summer adventures in Lake Muskoka, Ontario at the cottage of her brother-in-law Bill Neumann. Many a summer day was spent fishing, boating and water skiing, followed by home cooking and a jovial evening of rummy or euchre with the whole family. Following their retirements, Edith and Oscar spent time devoted to their grandchildren and traveled often to Ohio to see them. Edith moved to Fairfield, Ohio in 2003 to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She has been active in the Fairfield Pavilion residential facility for the past 6 years, being the first and most enthusiastic supporter of site activities including her favorite art classes, bingo and the Red Hats ladies group. Edith was a devoted Christian woman and was an active member of her local churches throughout her life with a special fondness for Calvary Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. Edith is survived by her caring and loving daughter, Barbara (Neumann) White, wife of Donald White of Fairfield, three loving grandchildren, James, Stephen and Christina. Edith is also survived by her beloved sister, Florence Drankhan, of Boston, New York; and her sister-in-law, Winifred Dunstan of Pleasanton, California. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; her son, Craig; two sisters, Gladys and Kathryn; and two brothers, David and Earl. Edith lived a glorious life of purpose and optimism fueled by her devote faith in our Lord Jesus Christ – and all who knew her are better off for their experience. The family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 6-9 PM and on Saturday from 10-11 AM in the Chapel of the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY (297-9007), where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 7th at 11:00 AM.
