Donald William Wendt, formerly of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009, in Grand Rapids, MI. He was born April 20, 1920, in Sanborn, NY, the son of William B. and Grace E. Wendt. Mr. Wendt attended grade school at St. Andrews Lutheran School and LaSalle High School and Trott vocational school. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers attached to the Air Force from 1942 until 1946 in the Azores' Islands. He was also stationed at Eniwetok, Saipan, Tinian Island and Okinawa. After being honorably discharged he was employed for 42 years as an Engineer for the Niagara Junction Railway and later Conrail, retiring in December of 1981. Mr. Wendt, together with his beloved wife, Dorothy became successful entrepreneurs in the opening of Wendt's Propane Gas in 1952. The company was a major supplier of propane gas to the massive Robert Moses Power Project on the Niagara River in the early sixties as well as many local customers. He was a former member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Sanborn for many years and then joined The First Assembly of God Church in Niagara Falls. Mr. Wendt was very fond of traveling, gardening, construction, hunting and fishing. He was the husband of fifty-four years to the late Dorothy Helen (Walck) Wendt, who died in January of 2006. Together they are the parents of Gary (Jacquelyn) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Douglas ( Marion) of Grand Rapids, MI and Susan of Lockport, NY; three brothers, Glenn (Jean), Kenneth (Dianne), Forrest (late Gail) Wendt; a sister, Gracelyn (late John) Bilek, all of Sanborn, NY; brother-in-law of Norine and Darla Wendt; also survived by eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Marvin (Ruth), Bertram and William Wendt, Jr. The family will be receiving friends and family at RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Rd., SANBORN, NY, on Friday, from 2 -4 and 7-9 PM. A celebration of Donald's life will be held at The First Assembly of God Church, 9750 Niagara Falls Blvd., Niagara Falls, NY, Saturday at 10:30 AM, with the Rev. Ronald Friedersdorf, officiating. The family has requested that gifts in memoriam be made t0 Hospice of Spectrum Health, Spectrum Health Foundation, 100 Michigan NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. With her father not only giving
her in marriage, but receiving
the vows as well, Miss Dorothy
Helen Walck became the bride of
Donald William Wendt Saturday,
Nov. 24, at the Roseland Bethlehem
Lutheran Church.
Before the altar, decorated with
white mums, palms and cathedral
candles, the daughter of Rev. and
Mrs. A. W. Walck, and the son
of Mr. and Mrs. William Wendt
of Sanborn, N.Y., exchanged their
vows. Miss Gertrude Walck, sister
of the bride, played th wedding
music, and Paul Mehls of Niagara
Falls, was soloist.
For her wedding the bride chose
candleight bridal satin made with
a fitted bodice and long sleeves
ending in points. The portrait
neckline was bordered with imported
Venice lace and the full
gathered skirt ended in a cathedral
train. Her veil of imported
illusion was held by a satin halo
covered with seed .pearls and she
carried white roses and pom pons
centered with an orchid.
Miss Amanda Walck, another
sister, was maid of honor. She
wore rose taffeta made with a
lace-edged nylon yoke and carried
white 'mums and pink roses.
The bridesmaids were Miss Har-
Landers and Miss Anne
Louise Wendt, both of Niagara
Falls. Miss Gracelyn Wendt of
Sanborn was junior bridesmaid.
They were all gowned in turquoise
taffeta made in the same style
as that of the maid of honor.
Bertram Wendt of Sanborn was
best man for his brother. The
ushers were William Wendt Jr.,
Kenneth and Glenn Wendt, also
brothers of the groom, and Leonard
Walck, a. cousin of the bride.
For her daughter's wedding
Mrs.. Walck chose a gown of fray
with fray accessories and a cor-
sage of gardenias and roses. Mrs.
Wendt wore a blue dress, with
matching accessories and a rose
and gardenia corsage.
Following the ceremony a re-
ception was held in the Bethle-
hem Church parlors Out-of-town
guests were from Fremont and
Toledo, Ohio; Bergholtz, Sanborn,
Walmore, Pekin and Middleport,
N.Y.
Upon their return from a wed-
ding trip to Montreal Mr. and
Mrs. Wendt will make their home
on the Lockport Rd., Niagara
Falls. The bride is employed by
the Republic Gas Company and
the groom is an engineer with the
Niagara Junction Railway Com-
pany.

In Walmore road, The Rev Edward
Graham, pastor of the church, officiated.
Mrs. Harvey Haselcy played the
wedding music and Mr, Paul Mehls
sang "Blest Be the Tie that Binds"'
and "O Perfect Love." The bride,
who was given in marriage by her
father, wore a gown of white bridal
satin, made on princes* lines. Her
attendants were Miss Ruth Belling.
as maid of honor; Mrs. Elwood
Krull, as matron of honor: Miss
Marilyn Wendt. as bridesmaid, and
little Doris Wlttkopp. nelce of the
bride, as Junior bridesmaid.
Mr. Marvin Wendt, brother of the
groom, was best man. Mr. Raymond.
Wittkopp and Bertram Wendt
acted as ushers. .
Immediately after the ceremony
a reception and dinner for 135 guests
was held at the home of the bride
in a tent on the lawn.
Mr. .and Mrs. Wendt have returned
from their wedding trip to
Detroit, Mich., where they visited
relatives. - °
They are residing at the home of
the bride's parents In Lockport
road.
