    WHEATFIELD - Willis S. Retzlaff, who served as town assessor for 27 years and was active in community and church affairs, died of a heart attack Saturday in his home. He was 78.
    Mr. Retzlaff was born in Wheatfield and attended local schools. He served in the Air Force and was a member of Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion.
    He was a lifelong farmer and a skilled carpenter who built several homes in the area.
    He was town assessor from 1972 to 1999 and the following year was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals. He had been president of the Niagara County Assessors Association and an officer of the New York State Assessors Association.
    Mr. Retzlaff was an active member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as president, elder and financial secretary. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the cemetery committee.
    He was a charter member and past president of the Wheatfield Lions Club and was serving as treasurer at the time of his death.
    He was named Lion of the Year in 1991 and won two other Lions awards: the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1994 and the Robert Uplinger Distinguished Service Award in 1998.
    He was a charter member of the Wheatfield Republican Club; member and past president of the Wheatfield Business Association; treasurer of the Wheatfield Family Picnic Committee; a former member of the Bergholz German Band; a member of the town Historical Society; and a volunteer for Kids Voting.
    He enjoyed gardening.
    Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Lois Hassan; a daughter, Debra Sheehan of Bergholz; a son, Randall of Wheatfield; a sister, Alice Walck of Sanborn; a brother, Kenneth of Wheatfield; and six grandchildren-.
    Services will be at 11 A.M. Wednesday in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore Road. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    Willis Sherman Retzlaff

    Willis Sherman Retzlaff was born on June 7,1927 to Arthur and Lily (Pfuhl) Retzlaff. He was baptized on June 19, 1927 and confirmed on April 14, 1940. Willis was united in marriage to Lois Hassan on September 8, 1951. They were blessed with two children, Debra and Randall.
    Willis was a life long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church where he served as President of the Congregation, financial secretary, Elder and presently as Chairman of the Cemetery Committee.
    Willis farmed for many years then went into carpentry and built many homes in the area. He was elected Assessor for the Town of Wheatfield and served in that capacity for 27 years, retiring in 1999.
    He was a charter member, past President and currently served as Treasurer of the Wheatfield Lions Club. He was named Lion of the year in 1991, received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1994 and the Robert Uplinger Distinguished Service Award in 1998.     Willis enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and helping anyone in need.
    On Saturday, August 20, 2005, at home, unexpectedly Willis was called to be with His Lord.
    He is survived by his wife, Lois, daughter, Debra (Theodore) Sheehan, son, Randall; grandchildren, Theodore (Holly) Sheehan Ill, Becky, Tim and Tom Sheehan, Amanda and Scott Retzlaff; a sister, Alice Walck, a brother, Kenneth (Dianne) Retzlaff; sisters-in-law, Joanne (Edwin) Scherrer, Betty Lou (George) Lozina and Sally Archer and many nieces and nephews.

    TOWN OF NIAGARA- Milton H. (Mike) Haseley, 51, of 10315 Lockport Road, was pronounced dead on arrival at Mount Saint Mary's Hospital Friday (Sept. 9, 1977) after being stricken with an apparent heart attack at his home.
    He was a life-long resident of the Town of Niagara where he had attended local schools.
    He was the president of the Haseley Trucking Co. Inc., which he had operated since the early 1940s. He was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Operating Engineers Local 463, the Niagara County Truck Owners Association, the Judges and Police Association of Niagara County and he was an honorary member of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co.
    Survivors include his wife, Doris Kelly Haseley, one son, Mark Haseley, one daughter, Marilyn Haseley; his mother, Mrs. Esther Haseley; two brothers, Raymond, and Reuben; two sisters, Mrs. Howard (Elverna) Catlin and Mrs. William (Doris) Davis. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul F. Wittenberg officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the Rhoney Funeral Home, Sanborn, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday. The Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. will conduct memorial services Monday at 7 p.m.
    Contributions to the St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund would be acceptable as tribute the family said.

    Town of Niagara-Doris June Haseley Narron, 62, of Lockport Road, died Wednesday (Feb. 12, 1992) at her home after a lengthy illness.
    Mrs. Narron owned and operated the Haseley trucking Company with her husband Milton “Mike” Haseley, who died in 1977. She continued operating the company until the time of her death.
    She was born in North Tonawanda and moved to the Town of Niagara in 1956. She was a member of St. peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore.
    She is survived by her husband, Alonza M. Narron; a son, Mark Haseley of the Town of Niagara, a daughter, Marilyn Retzlaff of Wheatfield and five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Saturday at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, where prayers will be recited at 9 P.M. Saturday.
    The Rev. Herbert R. Maxwell will conduct services at 2 P.M. Sunday at St. peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6168 Walmore Road, Sanborn. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield. \

    Esther L. Haseley Lived in Town of Niagara 65 Years
    Esther L. Haseley of Lockport Road in the Town of Niagara died yesterday (May 27, 1984) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a long illness. She was 91. She was a native of the Town of Wheatfield and had lived in the Town of Niagara for the last 65 years. She was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore. Survivors include sons, Raymond and Reuben, both of the Town of Niagara; daughters, Mrs. Howard (Elverna) Catlin and Mrs. William (Doris) Davis, both of the Town of Niagara; a brother, Edwin DeVantier, of the Town of Wheatfield; 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha (Millville) DeVantier and the wife of the late Hubert Haseley, who died in 1974. She also was the mother of the late Milton and Glenn Haseley and sister of the late Benjamin DeVantier.
