    NATHAN OLIVER FERCHEN "Ollie", age 95 of Bergholz, was called peacefully to his heavenly home on July 6, 2018, while at the Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on March 21, 1923, son of the late Eric and Elsie (Mueller) Ferchen. He was united in marriage to Shirley (Brooks) Ferchen on June 7, 1947. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2004. Ollie served in the United States Army during World War II, and received the Purple Heart. A lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Bergholz; he was employed as a truck driver for Staffen Trucking, Tonawanda, the Town of Wheatfield, and Prezezio Trucking. Ollie was a member of the American Legion- Wheatfield Post 1451, the Bergholz German Band, and was an avid Yankees fan.
    Survivors include four children, DeEtte (husband Francis Giles) Ferchen, Charlene (Randall) Scherrer both of Bergholz, Russell (Karen) Ferchen of Lockport, and Justine (Richard) Wright of Bergholz; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Bethany, Vanessa, Stephanie, Michele, Cindi, Joseph, and Tyler; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth (Muriel) Ferchen of Bergholz; and a brother in law, Joseph (Carole) Brooks.
    Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Tuesday (July 10) from 3-7 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Denton White, on Wednesday (July 11) at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Road and Luther Street, Bergholz. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.

    SEPT. 25, 1927 -- DEC. 26, 2004 Shirley L. Ferchen of Bergholz, a member of the Bergholz German Band, died Sunday in Elderwood Heath Care Center at CrestWood, Wheatfield. She was 77.
    Born Shirley Brooks in Toronto, she moved to the Niagara Frontier at an early age. She attended local schools.
    Mrs. Ferchen was an active member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz.
    She is survived by her husband, Nathan O. of Bergholz; a son, Russell of Lockport; three daughters, DeEtte, Charlene Scherrer and Justine Wright, all of Bergholz; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

    Elsie R. Ferchen, the oldest living member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, died Tuesday (June 18, 1996) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after becoming ill in CrestWood Health Care Center, Wheatfield.
    Mrs. Ferchen, 96, formerly of Bergholz, was born Elsie Mueller on Jan. 1, 1900, in the Town of Wheatfield.
    She enjoyed gardening and cooking.
    Her husband, Erich, died in 1973.
    She is survived by two sons, Nathan "Ollie" and Kenneth; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday in DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road. Burial will be in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield

    Elsie V. Brooks, 94, a native of England, died Friday (Jan. 28, 2000) in Mount View Health Facility, Lockport, after a brief illness. She had been a patient at that nursing home since late 1998.
    The former Elsie Wilkenson was born in Cornwall, England. Her family emigrated to Canada in 1917. She moved to Niagara Falls when she married Russell C. Brooks in 1926. He died in 1981.
    The couple had moved to Bergholz in 1948, and Mrs. Brooks lived there until moving to Wheatfield Towers in 1985.
    A homemaker, Mrs. Brooks was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. She enjoyed euchre, bingo, raffles, plays, and the Senior Citizens Club.
    Survivors include her son Howard; her daughter Shirley Ferchen; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday in DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road. Burial will be in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery

    NORTH TONAWANDA, April 10. -Christian Frederick Ferchen, 68 years old, died Sunday night at his home in Bergholz, where he had been a lifelong resident. For 15 years he was teacher of the St. Jacob's parochial school in Bergholz. He is survived by a wife, Augusta; two sons, Hugo, Sanborn, and Errick (sic), Bergholz; two daughters, Miss Adelia Ferchen, and Mrs. Arthur Williams, Bergholz; eight grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Hattie I. Heidenfeldt, North Tonawanda, and Mrs. August Burow, Bergholz. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence and half an hour later at the Holy Ghost church, Bergholz. Rev. John Kuchenbecker officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Ghost cemetery.

    BERGHOLTZ, April 14.-The passing of Christian Frederick Ferchen, who peacefully passed away at his home in this village, at the age of 68 years, removes one of the most popular residents of this vicinity, whose life was in every respect an exemplification of Christianity and civility. Mr. Ferchen was born in this village on the 12th of August, 1859. His parents were among the first settlers of this vicinity. He at one time was a parochial school teacher for 15 years for the St. Jacob's congregation. Being of a kind, loving character, he not only endeared himself to his own family, but also to everyone with whom he came in contact. He was a talented musician, when nine years old, he started to play in a band. He also played a violin and bass viol. Mr. Ferchen had been in good health until about two weeks ago, when he was taken ill with erysipelas. The funeral services were held from the home at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 o'clock at the Holy Ghost church, Thursday. The services being conducted by the Rev. J. Kuchenbecker. He leaves a wide circle of friends, besides his wife, Auguste, two sons, Hugo of Sanborn and Erich at home, two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Williams and Miss Adelia Ferchen, at home; one brother, William Ferchen, two sisters. Mrs. Hattie Heidenfeldt and Mrs. August Burow. He also leaves eight grandchildren.
    Flower bearers were: Edgar Milleville, Theodor (sic) Heuer, Herbert Strassburg, Alfred Heidenfeldt, Martin Milleville, Clarence Wittkopp, Lester Wurl and Wilmer Wurl. Pallbearers were: John Moll, August Mueller, Fred Wurl, August Williams, Philip Mueller and August Sy. Burial was in the Holy Ghost Cemetery.

    Hold Last Rites For Mrs. Ferchen
    BERGHOLZ, June 15. - Funeral services for Mrs. Auguste Milleville Ferchen were held this afternoon from the home at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 o'clock at Holy Ghost Lutheran church with the Rev. Victor. Dahlke officiating. The senior group of the Holy Ghost school sang, "Jesus While Living and Jesus While Dying." The bearers were Christ Burow, Arthur Milleville, Cornelius Ferchen, Theodore Schmidt, David Ferchen and Edwin DeVantier. Interment was in Holy Ghost cemetery. Mrs. Ferchen was born at the Milleville homestead on the Old Falls boulevard and was a life long resident of the Town of Wheatfield for 82 years. She lived 64 years in the same house and attended school in the same house where she resided when ten years old. In 1886 she was married to Christian Ferchen, a parochial school teacher of the St. James congregation. She was the daughter of the late John and Albertine Krull Milleville. She Is survived by two sons, Hugo Ferchen, Niagara Falls, and Erich Ferchen, Bergholz; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur J. Williams. Cayuga drive, Niagara Falls, and Mrs. Edward Eggert, at home; one sister, Mrs. Bertha DeVantier, St, Johnsburg; 11 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She was a sister of the late John William Albert Milleville and Mrs. William H. Schmidt. Mrs. Ferchen was an active member of the Holy Ghost church and of the Lutheran Women's Missionary league. She was interested in the Lutheran Hour, sponsored by the Luther Laymen's league and founded by the late Dr. Walter Maler.
