    EARL E. VOELKER, age 78 of Wheatfield, NY, was called unexpectedly to his heavenly home on March 31, 2021 at his residence. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on February 17, 1943; son of the late Melvin and Gladys (Mellenthine) Voelker. Earl was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield, attended LaSalle High School for a year, then was a student at Niagara Wheatfield High School, graduating in their first graduating class of 1961. Earl served in the United States Navy from 1961-1963. He was self-employed in his home improvement business for several years, and later as a supervisor at DuPont Chemical, in Niagara Falls, retiring in 2001. A long time member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, in Bergholz, he held various positions including on the school board, boys basketball coach, and mowed lawn at the church cemetery. Earl was also a member of the Bergholz Fire Company, and the Bergholz German Band Colorguard. He enjoyed golfing with his buddies, was an avid sports fan, and in high school excelled in football, baseball, basketball and track. Earl was inducted into the Niagara Wheatfield Sports Hall of Fame, for football and basketball.Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth Elaine (Camann) Voelker, whom he married on May 29, 1965; four children, Rebecca Scherrer of Bergholz, Daniel (Christine) Voelker of Prince Frederick, Maryland, Rachel Burleigh-Voelker and Luke Voelker both of Bergholz; a brother, Mark (Jan) Voelker; grandchildren, Mitchell Scherrer, Mariah (Patrick) Noonan, Benjamin Voelker, Sophia Voelker, Ava Burleigh, Wesley Burleigh, Scarlett Burleigh; great-grandchildren, Liam and Delilah Noonan; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lynn Voelker.Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Denton White, on Friday, April 9 at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Road and Luther Street in Bergholz. Interment with military honors will follow in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.

    Gladys E. Voelker, 76, a retired school bus driver, died Friday (Dec. 29, 1995) in her Niagara Road home after a lengthy illness.
    The former Gladys Mellenthine was born in North Tonawanda and had lived in Bergholz since 1941.
    Mrs. Voelker was employed by the Niagara Wheatfield School District as a bus driver for about 25 years, retiring in 1980.
    She enjoyed gardening and refinishing furniture.
    Mrs. Voelker was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.
    Her husband, Melvin Voelker, died in 1980.
    Surviving are two sons, Mark and Earl; a daughter, Lynn Blake; a brother, Ralph Mellenthine of North Tonawanda; nine
    grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday at St. James Church, 2437 Niagara Road. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery

    BERGHOLTZ, Nov. 28. - One of
    the loveliest of the season's weddings
    was solemnized Thanksgiving day at
    4 o'clock at St. John's Lutheran
    church, St. Johnsburg, when Miss
    Gladys Mellenthine. daughter of Mr.
    and Mrs. Marius Mellenthine. of the
    Ward road, became the bride of
    Melvin Voelker, son of Mr. and Mrs.
    Edward Voelker, of this village. The
    Rev. J. W. Thlemecke performed the
    ceremony.
    The church was beautifully decorated
    with palms and pompoms.
    The bride, who entered the church
    on the arm of her father, was lovely
    in a white slipper satin gown made
    on princess lines with a long train.
    The high-draped neckline was fastened
    at the back with a row of
    tiny buttons, She wore an illusion
    veil of finger-tip length which fell
    from a braided halo. Her shower
    bouquet was of white roses and pom-
    poms.
    Miss Evelyn Lenhardt, who was
    maid of honor, was becomingly
    in a princess frock of aqua
    marine moire taffeta, made on prin-
    cess lines, with a short train and
    fasioned with large puff sleeves
    and a cleverely cut neckline, which
    fastened at the back with a row of
    tiny buttons reaching to the waist.
    She wore a matching face veil
    which fell from a flowered halo. Her
    bouquet was of pink roses and pompoms.
    Audrey Voelker and Marian
    Broecker wore dresses of rose moire
    taffeta fashioned the same as the
    maid of honor. They wore matching
    face veils and flowered halos
    and carried bouquets of pink roses
    and pompoms.
    Norman Camann was best man
    and Ralph Mellenthine, brother of
    the bride, and Kenneth Voelker,
    brother of the groom were the
    ushers.
    The bride's mother wore a teal
    blue crepe dress with gold accessories
    and a corsage of yellow roses.
    The groom's mother wore a teal
    blue gown with silver accessories.
    Her corsage was of pink roses.
    Immediately following the ceremony,
    a reception was held at the
    St. Johnsburg fire hall. Covers were
    laid for 60 guests. The bride's table,
    with covers laid for eight, was beautifully
    decorated in pink and white
    with a large wedding cake marking
    the bride's place.
    Mr. and Mrs. Voelker, who have
    been honored at many pre-nuptlal
    affairs, will be at home In the Ward
    road, S t Johnsburg.

    BERGHOLZ - Eugene W. Camann, an author, historian and former accountant for Carborundum County, died Sunday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a brief illness. He was 84.
    Born in Wheatfield, Mr.
    Camann was a longtime resident of the hamlet of Bergholz. He graduated from Holy Ghost Lutheran School in Bergholz, LaSalle High School and Harvard Business School.
    Mr. Camann worked at Carborundum for 32 years, retiring as a cost accountant. He was also an office manager for 10 years with the Eastern District office of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
    In 1975, he founded the Historical Society of North German Settlements in Western New York. He also served as curator of its Heritage Museum in Bergholz, co-founded the Bergholz German Band and was a member of the Bergholz Fire Company Band.
    Mr. Camann wrote two books - "Uprooted From Prussia, Transplanted in America" and "More Prussian Transplantings in Wheatfield" - as well as numerous historical pamphlets. He took numerous trips to Germany to do research for his books.
    Mr. Camann was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he served as an elder, chairman of the congregation, Sunday school superintendent, choir member and on the youth and stewardship boards. He also researched and spoke on Lutheran Church history in Western New York.
    His wife of 45 years, Janice R. Wienke Camann, died in 1988.
    Survivors include four sons, David of San Antonio, TX,
    Michael of Germantown, Stephen of Waldorf, MD., and Timothy of Unadilla; four daughters, Ruth Voelker, Lois Wiseman, Mary Fuerch and Deborah Feick, all of Bergholz; two brothers, Waldemar and Roland, both of Wheatfield; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
    Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday in Holy Ghost Church, 6630 Luther St. at Niagara Road, Bergholz. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    BERGHOLZ - Janice R. (Wienke) Camann, 65, of Luther Street, died Thursday (April 7, 1988) at her home. She was born in Niagara Falls and was a long-time resident of Bergholz. She was an active member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women's Missonary (sic) League, Altar Guild and the Quilting Group. She was also active in the Historical Society of the North German Settlement in Western New York. Mrs. Camann is survived by her husband, Eugene W. Camann of Bergholz; sons, David Camann of Texas, Michael Camann of Massachusetts, Stephen Camann of Maryland and Timothy Camann of Pulaski, N.Y.; daughters, Ruth Voelker, Lois Wiseman and Mary Fuerch all of Bergholz, Deborah Camann of Cambridge, Ont.; a brother, Harold Wienke of Bergholz; and 18 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.     BERGHOLTZ, Nov. 18- The mar-
    riage of Miss Elfrieda Voelker, of
    Niagara and Hunts streets, to Nor-
    man Andrees, of the Nash road and
    Niagara Falls boule
    vard, was one of

    the prettiest weddings held here this
    season. Miss Voelker is the daughter
    of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Voelker
    and Mr. Andrees is a son of Mrs. E.
    Andrees. The ceremony took place
    last Saturday at St. James Evangelical
    Lutheran church, the Rev. Otto
    Bruss officiating.
    To the strains of Lohengrin's wed-
    ding march, played by Theodore Gra-
    bau, organist, the bridal party enter-
    ed the church. Miss Voelker was love-
    ly in her bridal attire of a white
    moire gown, which was floor length
    and had a long train, a long tulle
    veil and an old fashioned bouquet of
    white roses, and white Pom Poms and
    smilax tied with satin streamers. She
    wore white hose and shoes to match.
    Miss Audrey Voelker, sister of the
    bride, was maid of honor and wore a
    becoming gown of tea rose moire
    floor length, similar to that of the
    bride. The bride's maids were Miss
    Emma Andrees, sister of the groom,
    and Miss Gladys Mellenthine, an in-
    timate friend of the bride.
    The little four-year-old flower girl,
    Jacquelyn Andrees, niece of the bride
    and groom, looked dainty in a peach
    color silk crepe dress..
    The best man was Wallace Mar-
    tin. Melvin Voelker, brother of the
    bride, and Phillip Moll were ushers.
    Before the ceremony the Misses Ger-
    trude and Lydia Schultz of Niagara
    Falls, sand "I Love You Truly," and
    after the ceremony "What a Friend
    we Have in Jesus," with Mr. Grabau
    accompanying. The single ring cere-
    mony was used. Mrs. Voelker, mo-
    ther of the bride, wore a becoming
    dress of green silk crepe, and Mrs.
    Andrees, mother of the groom, wore
    a stunning gown of wine crepe.
    After the ceremony a reception was
    held in the hall on Niagara road for
    about 60 guests. Out-of-town guests
    were from Nashville, Tonawanda and
    Niagara Falls.
    Pre-nuptial affairs were showers
    given by Mrs. Hazel Weigant, the
    Misses Audrey Voelker and Lydia
    Schultz; Mrs. E. Andrees, Mrs. Mil-
    dred Andrees and Miss Emma An-
    drees; Miss Loretta Froehling, Mrs.
    Edward Heshke and Mrs. William
    Andrees. The bride and groom will
    reside on the corner of Nash road and Ni-
    agara Falls boulevard.

    MELLENTHINE – Marcus P. Mellenthine, 62, last night (Sept. 6, 1955) in his home, Ward Rd., St. Johnsburg. He is survived by his wife, Louise, nee Schaller. He was the father of Mrs. Melvin Voelcker of Bergholtz, and Ralph F. and Donald M., of the Town of Wheatfield. He is also survived by six grandchildren. He was the brother of Mrs. Elizabeth Broecker and half-brother of Edmund and Walter Williams. Services will be in the family residence at 2 p.m. Friday, and at 2:30 p.m. in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. J. Walter Thiemecke will officiate. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Mr. Mellenthine was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the St. Johnsburg Fire Company.

    MELLENTHINE – Louise Mellenthine, 90, of the Town of Wheatfield, Sunday (November 25, 1979) at the Fairchild Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Mellenthine was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

    She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Gladys) Voelker of the Town of Wheatfield and a son, Ralph (Doris) Mellenthine of North Tonawanda; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Cawley and Mrs. Martha Neidercorn, both of Wisconsin; mother of the late Donald Mellenthine.

    WIENKE - Gertrude V. age 79. of Bergholz, N.Y., Wednesday. September 3. 1975 in the- DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Wienke was a lifelong resident of the- Town of Wheatfield, a member of St. James Lutheran Church and former member of St. James Ladies Aide (sic) Society. She is survived by her husband Reinhard E. Wienke. A daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Junice (sic)) Camann and a son Harold R. Wienke. both of the Town of Wheatfield, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver at Ward Rd., North Tonawanda, this evening from 7-9, Friday 2-4 and 7-9 and until noon Saturday. The' body will lie in state in St. James Lutheran Church from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, the time of service. The Rev. Walter Williams will officiate. Interment in St. James Lutheran Cemetery. If so desired memorials may be made to the Lutheran Vespers or St. James Lutheran Church Development Fund. 9-4,5.

    Wienke, Bergholtz will celebrate
    their 50th wedding anniversary
    Saturday, at a dinner
    and reception given by
    their children at the Holy
    Ghost' Fellowship Hall,
    Bergholtz.
    "The couple was married
    June 26, 1921, in St.' James
    Lutheran Church. Both are
    lifelong residents of this area.
    Before his retirement Mr.
    Wienke was an electrical
    contractor and a p p l i a n c e
    dealer and at one- time was
    a barber. Mrs, Wienke
    operated a general store for
    more than 25 years. Both
    have been active in St. James
    Lutheran Church,
    They have one son, Harold
    Wienke and one daughter, .
    Mrs. Eugene ( J a n i c e)
    Camann, both of Bergholtz.
    They have 10 grandchildren
    and four great-grandchildren.
    Friends are invited to an
    open house; following the
    dinner, at the home of Mrs.
    Camman, 6697 Luther St.
