    Gertrude Viola Hein Mueller, 91, of Altamont died on Thursday, September 22, 2011 being called home to be “ever with the Lord.â€� Together with the saints in heaven and on earth, she rejoices in the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord.
    Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Lutheran Care Center Chapel with Rev. James Fackler officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 26 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont and for one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church (ELCA) Cemetery, Altamont. In lieu of flowers please consider giving a memorial to Lutheran Care Center. Gertrude Viola Hein Mueller was born June 20, 1920, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Reuben F. and Ruth (Netschert) Hein. She was baptized by her grandfather, Dr. C. C. Hein, then pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church (Columbus). She was confirmed at Trinity by the Rev. George Schultz. Gertrude graduated third in her class from South High School (Columbus) in 1937. She continued her education at Capital University (Columbus) where she met her future husband, Marcus C. Mueller, a seminary student from Niagara Falls, New York. They were married in the Seminary Chapel at Capital on December 3, 1939. Together they served many Lutheran churches: Grace, Howell MI; Zion, Ottawa Lake MI; St James, Bergholz NY; a two-point parish at Trinity-Carrollton and Emmanuel-Kilgore OH; Zion-Latchie, Perrysburg OH; St. Paul, Altamont IL; Faith, Augusta IL. In the late 1940s they coordinated the collection, packing and shipment of clothing and supplies to Lutheran missions in New Guinea. They originated and coordinated Vacation Bible School programs for several communities in New York, Ohio, and Illinois. Years later, many of her students still remember finger plays, songs, and Bible stories that she taught. Gertrude worked as an aide at Lutheran Care Center in the late 1960s and 1970s and later as a volunteer from the 1980s until teaching the last of “Gert’s Bible Studyâ€� on a Thursday morning in November 2010. She is survived by her sons David Mueller of Albuquerque, NM and Theodore Mueller of Altamont and her daughter Ruth Mueller Winter of Altamont as well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Gertrude Hein Mueller was the only granddaughter of Dr. C. C. Hein, the first president of American Lutheran Church, formed in 1930. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Ruth Netschert Hein; her husband of nearly 47 years, the Rev. Marcus C. Mueller; her brother, William C. Hein; and two grandchildren. Online condolences may be expressed at giesekingfh.com
