    Ronald James Schulz, age 64, of Niagara Falls, was called by his Lord and Savior on
    February 2, 2021 to join family and friends in his everlasting heavenly home. Ron was born Oct. 20, 1956 to Erwin and Helen (Demsky) Schulz. He attended schools in North Tonawanda and Tonawanda, graduating from Tonawanda High School in 1974. He served
    in the U.S. Air Force from 1976 until March 4, 1984. Ron was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Moriah from his first marriage, his in-laws, Reverend Lawrence and Betty Herfurth, and his brother in-law, John Elzer. Ron married Jane Herfurth on October 5, 1986. They adopted their loving adopted daughter from Guatemala, Katelyn Suzanne, at the age of 8 months in July 1993. Ron is survived by wife, Jane, daughter Katelyn (and Jeff) Pantano (and granddog Nugget), sister Barbara (Joe) Elzer Michno, sister Linda Gullo, brother-in-law John Herfurth and several nieces and nephews; Dena, Kim, Jeff, Samantha, Jenna, Lucietta, Dominic, Tony, Deanna, Katharine and Mark. Ron was so looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild this summer. Ron was employed as a Quality Engineer at various local companies, beginning at Trico and retiring from Caplugs. Ron loved most sports, especially football. He played football while in the Air Force. He also enjoyed camping, boating, golfing and fishing. Friends were always welcome to stop by for a campfire. Traveling with family and friends gave him great enjoyment, along with his Harley and 63 Harley T-shirts that he bought throughout his travels. Ron was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he was involved in the music program and served on the Board of Elders.
    Memorials, if desired, may be made to Grace Lutheran Church 736 Cayuga Dr. Niagara Falls, NY 14304 or St. John Lutheran School, 6950 Ward Rd. North Tonawanda, NY 14120. Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd. in North Tonawanda on Monday from 3:00 - 6:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home beginning at 6:00 PM. The family wishes to share that due to Covid they understand if friends are unable to attend at this time.     SPRING HILL, FL — Rev. Lawrence E. Herfurth was called by the Lord to the Church Triumphant in his 91st year on November 18, 2010. He passed peacefully at his home in The Residence at Timber Pines, Spring Hill, FL, after an illness of four and a half months. He was born in Alexandria, VA, to the late Oscar and Sadie Herfurth on May 5, 1919.

    Pastor Herfurth received his pre-theological training at Concordia College, Bronxville, NY. He graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, IL in January of 1945. On February 4, 1945, Pastor Herfurth was ordained into the Holy Ministry and installed as the Pastor of Zion (now Grace) Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls. Two days later, he married the former Betty Jane Pils of Niagara Falls on her 21st birthday. They were married just short of 61 years when she was called home January 7, 2006. He was also predeceased by their daughter, Ruth Suzanne, at the age of 19 months; and his sister, Ruth Tufts, in her 91st year.

    He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Johansen, whom he married in Florida on his 88th birthday, May 5, 2007; two children, Jane (Ron) Schulz of Niagara Falls and Rev. John (Inge) Herfurth of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Katelyn Schulz of Niagara Falls, Katharine (Tim) Lyvers and Mark Herfurth, both of Indiana; along with two nieces, Barbara (Henry) Ulrich and Anne Tufts.

    Rev. Herfurth served Grace Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls, as its Pastor for 17 years, during which time the new building was erected and dedicated. He also served on many Synod, District and civic committees during these years. On March 4, 1962, he was installed as Executive Director of the Lutheran Service Society of Western New York where he served for 23 years until his retirement. Some of the highlights of his LSS ministry were placing hundreds of children for adoption, joining. the Child Welfare League of America, becoming owner of elderly apartments in North Tonawanda called Luther Manor, foster home program for Indochinese Unaccompanied Refugees in Erie and Niagara Counties, developed a home for developmentally disabled in North Tonawanda, known as LADD (Lutheran Association for Developmentally Disabled), and became chairman of the Advisory Board for the Erie Co. Correctional Facility in Alden, NY.

    In his retirement, Pastor enjoyed reading, following sports, sitting on his porch at the Residence and working on puzzles. He and Barbara were very busy with activities at The Residence, where he served as President of the Resident Council for the past four years. They also enjoyed going to live theater performances, going to eat at Red Lobster and Applebees, and attending church and Sunday School classes. He also was a member of the Kiwanis Club in New York and Florida.

    Two memorial services were held in Florida on November 22, 2010. At 9:30 AM a service was held at The Residence, led by Pastor Jerry Waugh, with participation from Mary Young of the Residence and Pastor's children, Jane and John. Then at 1:00 PM, a memorial service was held at Brewer & Sons Seven Hills Chapel, led by Pastor Jerry Waugh, and Pastor Fran Welch, with participation from Rev. Dr. Arnold Kromphardt, former Eastern District President of the LCMS, and personal friend of Rev. Herfurth. Interment was at Florida Hills Memorial Gardens.

    A service to celebrate the life and ministry of Rev. L. E. Herfurth will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls, on Thursday, April 7, 2011. (Betty Jane Pils) Herfurth of Niagara Falls and Ridge Manor, Fla., recently celebrated 50 years of marriage with a luncheon at John's Flaming Hearth, followed by a church dinner at Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. Herfurth retired after 17 years of service at Grace Lutheran Church and 23 years of service with the Lutheran Service Society. Mrs. Herfurth was a nurse at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. They were married Feb. 6, 1945, at the former Zion, now Grace Lutheran Church. They have two children and three grandchildren.

    NIAGARA FALLS-Katherine E. Pils, 76, of 1138 Pasadena Ave., died Thursday (Jan. 25, 1973) suddenly at home.
    She was born in Sanborn.
    She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Betty) Herfurth of this city; a brother, Philippineslip Wendt of this city; three sisters. Mrs. John Mehls of this city; Mrs. Ruth Speck of Chicago, ILl., and Mrs. Alexander Doan of Niagara Falls, Ont.; and two grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Walter G. Schultz will officiate assisted by The Rev. Alvin Riemer.
    Friends may call at the Lane Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Society of New York, a family spokesman said. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

    The bride wore a blue tricotine suit
    a n d c h a m p a g n e colored h a t , a n d c a r r
    i ed white bride's roses. Her maid
    wore a gown of blue taffeta silk a nd
    c a r r i e d pink roses. The b r i d e ' s gift
    to her maid of honor was a gold
    brooch set with pearls, and the
    groom presented the best man with
    a gold f r a t e r n a l pin.
    Following the ceremony, a recept
    i on was held at the home of the
    b r i d e ' s parents, Mr. a n d Mrs. Will
    i am Wendt, covers being laid for
    about 50 g u e s t s , with 16 at the bride's
    table. The color scheme was pink
    and white, the t a b l e s being prettily
    d e c o r a t ed with roses. The out of
    town guests included Mrs. Charles
    Derringer and sons Gilbert and Albert,
    of Sherrill, and LeKoy Gaul of
    North Tonawanda. Upon their return
    from several days' motor trip, the
    bride and groom will make their
    home in Cayuga place, this village.
