William B. Wendt Jr., a former Town Board member, died Wednesday (Jan. 28, 2004) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was 71.
A lifelong area resident, he attended local schools.
Wendt served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1960, partly during the Korean War, aboard the USS Cainard.
"Junior," as he was known by many, was a well driller and plumber most of his working career. His business card for Ken Wendt's Propane Gas Service, said "Jr. Wendt, Jack of All Trades." He retired in 1989.
A Cambria Town Board member during the mid- to late 1970s, he was an exempt member and former treasurer of Sanborn Fire Company and was a bass drummer in the company's marching band.
Wendt was past president and treasurer of Niagara County Volunteer Firemen's Association. For many years, he was judge for the association's volunteer firemen parades.
He was past commander of the Sanborn American Legion post and a former member of the Sanborn Lions Club, serving as chairman of the annual chowder sale for several years.
Wendt was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, the former Darla Wackett; two daughters, Tammy Payne and Laura Lee Wiepert, both of Ransomville; a son, Richard of North Tonawanda; four brothers, Donald, Glenn, Kenneth and Forrest, all of Sanborn; a sister, Gracellyn Bilick of Sanborn; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services will be at 11 A.M. Monday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 64 E. Felton St., North Tonawanda. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery, Cambria

age of Miss Darla Jane Wackett to William B. Wendt,
Feb. 15, 1958.
The Rev. Theodore Rehkop united the daughter
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wackett, Ferry Ave., and the son
of Mr. and Mrs. William Wendt, Sanborn, in a double ring
ceremony.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a floor length
gown of chantilly lace
and tulle with a fitted bodice
and a bouffant skirt. Her scalloped
veil of double illusion was
held by a queen's crown of sequins
and pearls. Her bouquet
was a cascade of white carnations
and ivy.

Fire Hall, the mother of
the bride wore a navy blue
dress with pink accessories and
the bridegroom's mother selected
a black and pink frock.
After a motor trip, the couple
will be at home at 1447 Ferry
Ave.
