    Eugene C. Hoover, 87, of Sanborn, NY, died peacefully Sunday at home, after a short illness. Gene was born in the Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County, NY, on May 21, 1921, the son of Edwin and Lucille (Dodge) Hoover, where he attended local schools and Trott Vocational High School, in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY.He was born and raised on the farm where his father began the Hoover Dairy in 1923, along with his brother, Lloyd they continued the dairy and farm following his death in 1968. He continued working at the farm and dairy until last year, after 70 years of the daily routine of the dairy and home deliveries. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of School #7, of the former school at the corner of Hoover and Lockport Road, Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County, NY, a Life member of the Sanborn Fire Company, a member and past board member of the Sanborn Lion's Club, and a member of the former Sanborn Baptist Church.He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Patricia M. McCann Hoover, who died on June 25th of this year.Surviving, are his sons, Robert E. (Judy) Hoover, Dennis J. (Denise) Hoover; a brother, Lloyd (Elfriede) Hoover; two sisters, Ruth (late Dr. Lee) Carrel, Janet (Rick) Latham; grandchildren, Robert E. (Darci) Hoover II, Christina (Michael) Herlan, Thomas Hoover, Brian (Mary) Hoover and Tammy Hoover; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.Friends are invited to call on Wednesday 7-9 PM, 7-9 PM Thursday and 4-8 PM Friday at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, Sanborn, 5893 Hoover Road, where a Memorial Service will be held Thursday at 8 PM by the Sanborn Fire Company.     Mrs. Patricia M. Hoover, 82, of Sanborn, NY passed away Wednesday, June 25th, 2008 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, Niagara County, NY, after a short illness.

    Mrs. Hoover was born in Rochester, Monroe County, NY on February 2, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John and Alberta (Thomas) McCann. Pat was a graduate of LaSalle High School in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, in the Class of 1945. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church Ransomville, NY. Pat was a homemaker who for many years kept track of the records of the family Hoover's Dairy, in Sanborn. She was a member and past chaplain of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sanborn American Legion, she was a member of the Sanborn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, where she had served as past secretary and vice president. She enjoyed baking and had made many pies for the old Sanborn Field Days.

    Pat had a great Irish sense of humor, she enjoyed working on family history, and keeping the family straight on English grammar. She loved her family, friends, animals, especially her cat "Tippy", dogs, birds, and of course chasing the farms cows.

    Surviving is her loving husband of 62 years, Eugene, two sons, Robert E. [ Judy ] Hoover, Dennis J. [ Denise ] Hoover, grandchildren, Robert E. [ Darci ] Hoover, II, Christina [ Michael ] Herlan, Thomas Hoover, Brian [ Mary ] Hoover and Tammy Hoover, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

    She is the sister in law of Ruth [ late Dr. Lee ] Carrel; Lloyd [ Elfreide ] Hoover; Janet [ Rick ] Latham.

    The family will be present on Friday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, SANBORN, 5893 Hoover Road. The Sanborn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service Friday at 7 PM, followed by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sanborn Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, at 1:30 PM on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, 4671 Townline Road [ Rt. 429 ], Ransomville, NY, with Rev. James C. O'Connor officiating. Interment will be in the Wheatfield Cemetery, Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County, NY.

    Should friends desire memorials may be made in Pat's memory to Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence 5285 Lewiston Road Lewiston, Niagara County, NY 14092 or Immaculate Conception Church 4671 Townline Road Ransomville, NY 14131.

    Glenn L. Wendt of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017, in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, NY. He was born at home in Sanborn on May 7, 1930, the son of the late William B. and Grace E. (Wendt) Wendt. Mr. Wendt attended Trott Vocational High School. He worked with his uncle at Wendt Frozen Foods in Buffalo before taking over the family farm and sold Minneapolis Moline tractors. Mr. Wendt worked construction with Smith Brothers and became an operating engineer with Operating Engineer Local 463, until retiring in 1995. He was a life-member of the Sanborn Fire Company, where he served as President and Fire Chief. He had been on every truck committee since 1966 up until the two last fire trucks were purchased. He was active in all the fire companies' activities. Mr. Wendt served as Past President of Niagara County Fire Chiefs Association, FASNY and many other fire related associations. He was a member of the Sanborn Historical Society and Holy Ghost Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and NASCAR. Mr. Wendt is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean (Smith) Wendt; one son, Jay (Susan) Wendt; three daughters, Dr. Joanne (Tony) Clews, Judy (Robert) Hoover and Joy (Richard) Frerichs; eight grandchildren, Robert (Darci) Hoover, Christina (Mike) Herlan, Thomas (Jen Schepis) Hoover, Jennifer (Jeff) Melear, Michael (Julie) Frerichs, Jamie (Dan) Lukasiewicz, Tiffany (Vincent Aquino) and Brandon (fiance'e, Emma Grayson) Wendt; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Forrest (late Gail) Wendt; a sister, Gracelyn (late John) Bilek; also many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Donald (Dorothy), Marvin (Ruth), Bertram (Norine), William (Darla) and Kenneth (Dianne) Wendt. The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, on Saturday from 7-9 PM and on Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. The Sanborn Fire Co. memorial service will be Sunday at 7:00 PM.     OBITUARY

    Jean L. Wendt of Sanborn, NY,  passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at her home under the care of her family and Niagara Hospice.   She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on April 2, 1931, the daughter of the late Russell and Kathleen [Gruber] Smith.
    Mrs. Wendt was a seasonal worker at Treichler's Greenhouse and Kelch's Cherry Bank Farm.
    She was a charter member and First President of the Sanborn Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary, where she was still an active member.
    Mrs. Wendt was an experienced seamstress.  
    She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren's events.
    Mrs. Wendt was of the wife of late Glenn L. Wendt, who passed away in March of 2017.
    She is survived by her children Judy (Robert) Hoover, Joy (Richard) Frerichs and Jay (Susan) Wendt,  eight grandchildren Robert (Darci) Hoover, Christina (Mike) Herlan, Thomas (Jen Schepis) Hoover, Jennifer Frerichs, Michael (Julie) Frerichs, Jamie (Dan) Lukasiewicz, Tiffany (Vincent Aquino)  and Brandon (Emma) Wendt, fourteen great grandchildren, a sister Diane (John) Lunney and a brother in law Forrest Wendt,   also many nieces and nephews.
    Mrs. Wendt  was the mother of the late Dr. Joanne (Tony) Clews and her late twin sister Jane (George) Weidert.
    Her family will be present on Wednesday from 6-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY.
    Funeral services will be held on Thursday  at 3:00 PM at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, 6630 Luther Street, Niagara Falls, NY, with the Rev. Denton White officiating. 
    Memorials may be made in her name to the Holy Ghost Church or Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY  14094. 
    Interment in Holy Ghost Cemetery, Town of Wheatfield, NY. 
    Facial coverings and social distancing are required.

    E. M. Hoover Dies; Founder of Dairy
    SANBORN - Edwin M. Hoover, 75 of 6030 Hoover Road, a well known farmer in this area, and founder of Hoover's Dairy 45 years ago, died Friday (Nov. 1, 1968) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after an illness of several months. He was born at his residence on on Sept. 27, 1892, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Hoover. At the time of his death, he was president of the dairy, in association with his sons Eugene and Lloyd. He was a member of the Niagara Falls Milk Council; the Forest Lodge 202, lOOF, for more than 50 years; and North Tonawanda Enterprise Encampment Lodge 88. Survivors besides his sons include his widow, Lucille; two daughters, Mrs. J. Lee (Ruth) Carrell of Tonawanda and Mrs. Richard (Janet) Latham of Pittsford; a sister, Mrs. Harrison, (Frances) Shenke of Yorkshire, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:30 p.m in the Pike and Jones Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, by the Rev. James P. Kenyon of Sanborn Baptist Church.     She was a native of
    Brockport, and lived in
    Niagara Falls prior to moving
    to Sanborn in 1923.
    Mrs.'McCann was the wife of

    She worked at the Rogers
    Silverplating Co. prior to
    joining Moore Business Forms
    as a bookbinder. She retired
    from Moore in 1954.
    Mrs. McCann was a member
    of St. Peter's Episcopal
    Church, American Legion
    Auxiliary Post 969, and the
    Sanborn Senior Citizens Club.
    Survivors include a
    daughter Mrs. Eugene
    (Patricia) Hoover; a sister,
    Mrs. Maurice LeVan; two
    grandsons, and several nieces
    and nephews, all of Sanborn.
    Funeral services will be held
    Thursday at 2 p.m. at the
    Rhoney Funeral Home (Pike,
    and Jones), 5893 Hoover Road,
    with the Rev. W. Michael
    Cassell Jr. of St. Peter's
    Episcopal Church officiating.

    Settlement Road, died Monday
    (Nov. 29, 1971) in a Buffalo
    hospital after a long illness.
    Born in Detroit, Mich., he
    came to this village in 1901,
    operating a dairy farm here for
    many years.
    His father, the late William
    Wendt, tapped the first gas
    well in Niagara County in 1927,
    and in 1938 Mr. Wendt and his
    brothers began operating the
    Wendt Brothers Gas Co.
    The company supplied
    Sanborn residents with gas
    until 1956, when the franchise
    was sold to the Iroquois Gas
    Co.
    Mr. Wendt also worked for a
    time at the Buffalo Pump Co.
    as a machinist.
    A member of St. Paul's
    Evangelical Lutheran Church,
    North Tonawanda, he was an
    exempt member of. the Sanborn
    Volunteer Fire Co.
    He is survived by his widow
    Grace Wendt; seven sons,
    Donald Wendt of Niagara
    Falls, and Marvin, Bertrum,
    Glenn, Kenneth, Forrest and
    William B. Wendt Jr., and a
    daugher, Mrs.John(Gracellyn)
    Bilek, all of Sanborn.
    Also surviving are two
    brothers, Alton Wendt of
    Lockport and Arnold Wendt of
    Niagara Falls; a sister, Mrs.
    Benjamin (Laura) Walck Sr. of
    Sanborn, 25 grandchildren a/id
    four great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held
    at St. Paul's Evangelical
    Lutheran Church, North
    Tonawanda, Thursday at 2:30
    p.m., with the Rev. Matthew
    Pushkar officiating. Burial
    plans have not been completed.
