Violette E. (nee Ewald) Bowman, age 92, of the Town of Wheatfield, Thursday, September 3, 2009 at her residence, after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late John G. and Matilda R. (Eberbach) Ewald and sister of the late Robert P. Ewald. She was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School and the Chown School of Business. She was employed by Buffalo Bolt for 20 years and Thruway Fasteners for 38 years, retiring in 1997. She was a long time active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, having served as a Sunday School teacher, member of the Altar Guild, Choir and Deacon. She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, newspapers and Classical music. Dearest mother of Russell Bowman of the Town of Wheatfield; grandmother of Mitchell (Dora) Bowman of Gaffney, SC; great-grandmother of Carrie and Daniel Bowman; sister-in-law of Betty Ewald and Florence Proefrock; also survived by a niece, Barbara Stahlman and a nephew, Paul Ewald; as well as various other relatives and many cherished friends.A Memorial Service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church at the convenience of the family. The Rev. David Beutel will officiate. Interment in Elmlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Camp Pioneer, 9324 Lake Shore Rd., Angola, NY 14006. John G. Ewald, 76, of 84 East Felton St., North Tonawanda, died Thursday (Oct. 26, 1967) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Ewald was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Matilda (nee Eberbach), and a daughter, Mrs. Violette Bowman, and a son, Robert P. Ewald, both of North Tonawanda; three grandchildren; three brothers, Gustav of North Tonawanda, Dr. Alfred Ewald of Dubuque, Iowa, and the Rev. Carl Duwe from North Tonawanda, and two sisters, Mrs. Elma Malow and Mrs. Esther Ragsdale, both of Detroit, Michigan.
Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver st. at Ward Road, North Tonawanda, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted from Redeemer Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Robert H. Rose will officiate. Interment will be in Elmlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Mission Fund.

John G. Ewald, 61 years old, died Sunday at the DeGraff Memorial hospital, after a long illness. He was removed to the hospital about 10 days ago. Ewald was born in Martinsville and was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda. He was employed at the Buffalo Steam Pump works for many years and at the time of his last illness was in the employ of the Rand company of North Tonawanda. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late residence at 1231 Payne avenue and at 2:30 from St. Paul's Church in Gratwick. Burial will be in Elmlawn. Surviving are six sons, Martin, August (sic), John R., Herman and Alfred Ewald and Carl Duwe, all of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Bluemeister of Martinsville; and Miss(sic) Elma Malow of Detroit, and one sister, Miss Esther Ewald of North Tonawanda.

Mrs. Hulda Ewald
Mrs. Hulda Ewald, fifty-two years old, died yesterday morning at her home at No. 532 Payne avenue. She was born in Wolcottsburg, N.Y., and had lived in the Tonawandas for the past thity-four years. She is survived by a husband, John Ewald; three daughters, Mrs. Otto Bliemeister and Miss Esther Ewald of North Tonawanda and Mrs. Otmar Malow of Detroit; six sons, Martin, Gustav, John, Herman, Alfred, Carl Ewald(sic) of North Tonawanda; a mother, Mrs. Bertha Duwe of Wolcottsburg, four sisters, Mrs. Otto Trieber of Rapids. N.Y., Mrs. Gustav Elmann of North Tonawanda, Mrs. Emma Sugg of Depew and Mrs. Herman Kirchhoff of Wolcottsburg, and two brothers, Albert Duwe of Batavia and Herman Duwe of Barker. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the late residence and half an hour later at St. Paul's church on Washington street, Rev. August Eberbach officiating. Burial will be at Elmlawn.
