    White Chapel Memorial
    Park. Flowers greatfully

    BUFFALO — Carol (nee Berner) Gebhardt, age 83, of North Tonawanda, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Buffalo General Hospital, after a brief illness. Born and raised in North Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Theophilus and Bertha (nee Fetterhoff) Berner. Carol was a lifelong member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda and was very active at the church. She was the wife of the late Harold W. Gebhardt, Jr., who died in 1982.

    She is survived by her four children, Craig (Linda) Gebhardt, Lynn (Terry) Walters, Paula (Peter) Heaton and Joel (Margaret) Gebhardt; two sisters, Florence Huber and Ellen Harris; and ten grandchildren, Scott, Britt (Tara), Glen (Karrie), Ryan (Rachel), Travis, Mallory (Brad), Spencer, Kara (Tom), Dean and Cal. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Liam, Penelope and Gavin; and many nieces and nephews.

    There is no visitation. Private graveside services were held today (Wednesday) at White Chapel Memorial Park, Town of Amherst. If desired, memorials to the St. Martin Lutheran Church Memorial Fund are preferred by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the care of the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., Tonawanda.

    White gladioli, palms and an
    aisle of candles in St. Martin's
    Lutheran Church, at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9, formed the background
    for the marriage of Miss Carol
    Berner. and Mr. Harold Gebhardt.
    Jr. Rev. Theophilus Ber-
    ner, father of the bride, officiated
    at a candlelight ceremony.
    The bride wore an organdy
    gown over taffeta with roll collar,
    deep v-neckline. long pointed
    sleeves and full skirt over a hoop
    forming a long train. Her veil
    of illusion, scalloped at the edges,
    was held with a crocheted crown.
    She carried a bouquet of white
    roses and pompons.
    Miss Phyllis Berner,
    bride's sister and maid-of-honor
    chose a gown of pink organdy
    over taffeta fashioned like that
    of the bride. She wore matching
    mitts and hat. Miss Jean Gebhardt,
    sister of the groom, and
    Mrs. Gloria Hyleman, bridal attendants,
    were attired in yellow
    and blue organdy gowns over
    taffeta. All carried bouquets of
    roses, pompons, larkspur and rubrum
    lilies.
    Sally Huber. flower girl for her
    aunt, wore white organdy over
    green, with mitts to match, and
    carried a basket of flowers.
    Mr. Clark Schoonover was beet
    man and the ushers were Mr.
    Dexter Rosokoff and Mr. Glenn ,
    Newell.
    The bride's mother favored a
    navy blue dress and the bridegroom's
    mother chose a burgundy
    crepe dress. Both wore corsages
    of roses and pompom.
    During the ceremony, Mrs.
    Ada Prohaska, accompanied Mr.
    Eugene Thiele, who sang "Because"
    and "The Lord's Pray-
    er"
    After the reception which was
    held in the church parish hall,
    the couple left for a trip to the
    Adirondacks and New York City.
    They will be at home in 100 Falls
    Blvd. after Sept. 18.

    NORTH TONAWANDA — Barbara (nee Barber) Ryan, age 80, of North Tonawanda, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. Born in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late LaVergne and Margaret (nee Louchren) Barber and had been a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas. Mrs. Ryan had been a teacher at St. Francis Parochial School in Tonawanda before retiring, and was an avid artist who was active with the painting group at Pendleton United Methodist Church.

    She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Edwin J. Ryan, Jr.; four children, Edwin (Lynn) Ryan III, Colleen (David) Rousselle, Peggy (Joel) Gebhardt and Kevin (Terri) Ryan. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

    There is no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday at St. Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda. Friends invited. If desired, memorials to the American Diabetes Association are preferred by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the care of the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., Tonawanda.

    The congregation of St. Martin's
    Church. Monday evening, honored
    its pastor, the Rev. Theophilus
    Berner on the 45th anniversary of
    his ordination in St. Martin's
    Church and his birthday anniversary.
    A potluck supper was served in
    the dining rooms of the church.
    The room and tables were decorated
    with Fall flowers. There was
    a beautifully decorated anniversary
    cake, baked by Mrs. Henry
    Thiele Jr. The Rev. Merton Baseler
    of St. Peter's American Lutheran
    Church spoke.
    Mr. Berner, a native of Canada,
    has lived in this vicinity since he
    was a young boy. His father was a
    former pastor and superintendent
    of St. John's Orphan Home in Buf
    ialo. Mr. Berner was graduated
    from the Buffalo Seminary.
    The congregation presented its
    pastor with a purse. A social evening
    followed supper.
