    Notes:

    Walter F. Smolen III of the Town of Wheatfield, entered into rest on January 23, 2022 at the age of 74. Walt was born on May 1, 1947, in North Tonawanda New York. He was the cherished son of the late Helen and Anthony Smolen Sr. Walt is survived by a brother, Anthony (Christine) Smolen and a sister, Marie (late Robert) Fleischman. He was a loving husband to the late Catherine Smolen.

    Walt was the father of Walter Smolen IV, Marc Smolen, Sharon (Joseph) Kramer and Elizabeth (Casey Becker) Fedeson. Walt was an adoring grandpa and papa to Meaghan, Ryan, Zachary, Kayleigh, Cararain, Audramoon, Grant, Amanda, Aiden, Annessa, Joey, Cecilia and Sienna. He was the great-grandpa of Aubrianna, Felix, Reyna, and Dominic. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

    Walt attended North Tonawanda High School and Niagara County Community College.
    He worked as a millwright at the General Motors Tonawanda Powertrain Plant and was a member of the UAW Local 774.

    Walt was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the La Salle Sportsmen’s Club and the North Tonawanda Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 2163. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved travel, camping, kayaking and the outdoors. His many talents included wine making, photography, woodworking and home renovation.

    Visitation will be held from 2 p.m.- 6 p.m. on Saturday January 29th at Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver Street, North Tonawanda. A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Private interment at White Chapel Memorial Park.

    TOWN OF WHEATFIELD — Catherine Smolen, 61, of the Town of Wheatfield, born on September 30, 1949 to the late Louis Duval and Jane Van Curan (Antonelli), passed away on November 4, 2010, after a long courageous battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

    Kitty was employed by Mercy Home Care for many years and spent the rest of her days loving and caring for children. She was a member of Garden Club of the Tonawandas, Redeemer Lutheran Church and Gilda’s Club in Buffalo. She enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. She loved travel and leisurely trips to the spa. She mostly loved being artistic and creative which usually involved making messes and having tea parties with the many children who lovingly called her “Grandma Kitty”.

    Beloved wife of Walter F. Smolen III; cherished mother of Sharon (Joseph) Kightlinger-Kramer, Elizabeth (Kristopher) Bearfield-Fedeson, Walter Smolen IV and Marc (Rheannda) Smolen. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren. Catherine was the sister of Diana (James) VanCuran, Patricia Kupiec, Raymond (Diane) Duval, the late Joseph (Gloria) Duval and Michael (Barbara) Duval. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

    Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver Street, North Tonawanda. Funeral will be Monday at 11 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her honor to Roswell Park Cancer Institute or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

    Retired from Durez Division of Oxychem
    Francis H. Wittkopp, age 64, of North Tonawanda, died unexpectedly, Monday, January 30, 2006 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Born August 18, 1941 in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Geraldine (nee Tremble) Wittkopp and had been a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda. He served in the US Air Force from 1960 until 1964, and was employed at the Durez Division of Oxychem for 30 years, before retiring in 1991. Mr. Wittkopp was a former member of the Double TT Archery Club, and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and archer.
    He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sharon (nee Siegfried) Wittkopp of North Tonawanda; a son, Carl R. Wittkopp of North Tonawanda; a daughter, Colleen (Wally) Smolen of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Timothy and Nicholas Wittkopp, and Zachary and Kaleigh Smolen; his father, Raymond Wittkopp; and a sister, Shari (Edward) Garbus of North Tonawanda. Also surviving are a niece, Amy (Jason) Zwolinski, and two nephews, Michael (Kathy) Garbus and Richard Garbus.
    Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Wednesday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday. Friends invited. Interment at Elmlawn Cemetery.     Raymond J. Wittkopp age 95 of North Tonawanda, June 10, 2007 in the Odd Fellow & Rebehka Rehabilitation Center, Lockport. Raymond was retired from Durez after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church (E. Felton St.) where he was a former elder and treasurer. He had belonged to Deerwood Golf Course and enjoyed golfing. He was the husband of the late Geraldine (nee Tremble) Wittkopp. Father of Shari (Edward) Garbus of North Tonawanda and the late Francis Wittkopp. Father-in-law of Sharon Wittkopp of North Tonawanda. Grandfather of Richard Garbus, Dallas, TX, Michael (Kathryn) Garbus of North Tonawanda, Amy (Jason) Zwolinski of Cheektowaga, Carl Wittkopp and Colleen (Walter) Smolen both of North Tonawanda; great-grandfather of 11 great-grandchildren.     A pretty wedding was solemnized
    Saturday, June 8 at 4 o'clock in
    St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran
    Church on East Felton street when
    Miss Geraldine Evelyn Tremble,
    daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert
    Schulz of 78 Allen street became
    the bride of Ray Witkop of Niagara
    Falls, the Rev. Rudolph Grabau,
    officiating.
    The bride wore a gown of pink
    mousseline de soie trimmed with
    ruffles and tied with a large blue
    sash in the back, and further
    adorned with a pink ruffled cape.
    She wore a large pink picture hat
    lace mitts and white sandals. Her
    bouquet was of white roses, sweet
    peas and baby breath. Miss Ev-
    elyn Burch, was maid of honor,
    her gown being of powder blue
    taffeta with a puffed sleeve jac-
    ket. She wore a large blue hat
    with lace mitts and white sandals.
    She carried a bouquet of pink ros-
    es, sweet peas and baby breath.
    Wallace Proefrock acted a3 best
    man. Mrs. August Eberbach played
    the wedding march.
    Mrs. Schulz, mother of the bjride
    wore a pink crepe dress and a
    corsage of roses and sweetpeas.
    Mrs. Witkop, the groom's mother,
    wore blue crepe and a corsage
    of roses and sweet peas.
    A wedding supper at the home
    of the bride followed the ceremony.
    Covers were laid for twenty-
    five at the bride's table which
    was centered with a large wedding
    cako decorated with a miniature
    bride and groom. The house was
    decorated in pink and white and
    cut flowers.
    Mr. and Mrs. Witkop have returned
    from a short wedding trip
    and are at home in 78 Allen
    street.
    Among the out of town guests
    were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Witkop
    and Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Witkop
    of Niagara Falls.
    Mrs. Harold Tremble of Felton
    street entertained for the bride
    at a variety shower and Mrs.
    Florence Tremble of Stenzel street
    at a bedroom shower.
