    Esther R. Stange , a retired Niagara Savings and Loan employee, died Wednesday (July 12, 2000) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. She was 87.
    Born Esther Behnke in Cambria, she graduated from Lockport High School and worked at Buffalo Bolt for several years as a bookkeeper. She retired in 1978 from Niagara Savings and Loan in North Tonawanda.
    Mrs. Stange was a member of the Altar Society of St. John Lutheran Church of Wheatfield, where she helped with the school lunch program. She also was active with the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the St. Johnsburg Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and was an elections inspector.
    Her husband, Norman, died in 1961.
    Survivors include a daughter, Norma Wallace of Jackson, Tenn.; a son, Douglas of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John Church, Niagara Falls Boulevard and Ward Road, Wheatfield. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    marriage ol Miss Esther Ruth
    Behnke only daughter of Mr and
    Mrs. Edward Behnke. of the Million
    Dollar Highway, North Ridge, to
    Norman Siange, son of Mr. and
    Mrs. William Stange. Sr.. of Ward
    road. St Johnsburg. was solemnized,
    on Strurday, October 14. at 3:30 in
    St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran
    church, North Ridge, the Rev. Carl
    W. Aldrich officiating.
    The church was beautifullly deco-
    rated with baskets of autumn flow-
    ers and the altar bouquets were yel-
    low chrysanthemums. During the
    ceremony, Delbert Schultz, of North
    Ridge, sang "The Lord Is My Shep-
    herd" and "A Wedding Hymn". Mrs.
    Flora Borget, of North Ridge, play-
    ed the organ.
    Given in marriage by her father,
    the bride wore a gown of white
    Suchess satin made with a tight
    bodice trimmed with tiny byuttons
    down the back and the high neck-
    line was fastened at the throat with
    a clip of orange blossoms. Her full
    skirt was fashioned with a long
    circular train and her veil of illu-
    sion fell from a Juliet cup made of
    tiny strips of net caught was or-
    ange blossoms. she carried a bou-
    quet of white chrysanthemums tied
    with white satin and moline.
    Miss Alice Greinert, of North
    Tonawanda, was maid of honor.
    She wore a gown of Windsor blue
    satin, made with a tight fitting
    bodice trimmed with dark blue vel-
    vet bows and the full floor length
    skirt had a small bustle. She car-
    ried a bouquet ofbronze chrysan-
    themums.
    Miss Verna Heiman, of Lockport,
    cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid.
    She wore a Grecian rose colored
    gown, fashioned similar to that of
    the maid of honor. Her bouquet
    was of orchid chrysanthemums.
    Miss Lois Stange, of North Tona-
    wanda, niece of the groom, was
    junior attendant. Her gown was of
    pale pink taffeta, with shirred bod-
    ice. She carried a colonial bouquet
    of various colored chrysanthemums.
    Alfred Stenge attended his broth-
    er as best man. Edward Behnke,
    brother of the bride, was grooms-
    man and the ushers were William
    Stange, Jr., brother of the groom,
    and Elwin Behnke, brother of the
    bride.
    The bride's mother wore a wine
    colored dress with matching hat
    and accessories, and the groom's
    mother chose a black dress with
    matching accessories.
    Mrs. Louise Behnke, the paternal
    grandmother of the bride, wore a
    black crepe dress with matching
    hat and Mrs. Hulda Urtel, maternal
    grandmother of the bride, was
    gowned in a black satin dress with
    an overdress of black net.
    A dinner was served at 6 o'clock
    in the parish hall, with covers for
    150 guests. Covers were laid for 10
    at the bride's table, which was cen-
    tered with a beautiful wedding cake.
    In the evening a reception was
    held at the home of the bride in
    the Million Dollar Highway. Out-
    of-town guests were present from
    Lockport, Bergholtz, Buffalo and
    the Tonawandas; also Miss Minnie
    Klein, of Chicago, Ill.
    Mr. and Mrs. Stange left for a
    trip to New York City and the
    World's Fair, and will be at home to
    their many friends after November
    10 in their new home in Church
    road, St. Johnsburg.
    Pre-nuptial showers in honor of
    the bride were given by the girls in
    the office of the Buffalo Bolt com
    pany at Snyder's tea room, Williamsville:
    a surprise variety shower
    given by Miss Alice Greinert at the
    Geltz tea room: a linen shower,
    given by Miss Berna Heiman of
    Lockport; a variety stiower given by
    Mrs. William Stange of Ward road;
    a kitchen shower given by Mrs.
    Henry Stange and Mrs. Paul Stange;
    a personal shower given by Mrs
    William Stange, Jr..and" a variety
    s h o w e r g l v e n b y the aunts of the
    b r i d e a t t n e ho r n e of Mrs. Frank.

    road home and at 3 o'clock at St.
    Peter's Lutheran church. North

    Peter's cemetery.
    Mrs. Behnke was born in St.
    Johnsburg and had lived in the
    Ridge road the last 40 years. She
    was an active member of St. Peter's
    church and its women's organiza-
    tions.
