    Obituary of Everett Fitchlee

    Everett A. Fitchlee was taken home by the Lord on Saturday September 25, 2021, to be with his beloved wife Ruth and son Gary.  He was predeceased by Gary on February 1, 2008 and Ruth on October 6, 2009.
    He was born September 20, 1923 to Victor A. and Beatrice (Holmes) Fitchlee, in the Town of Royalton.  Everett attended the County School in Royalton Center and was in the Lockport High School Class of 1942.
    Everett married Ruth Behm on December 7, 1946 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Lockport and they had three children; Leonard, Gary and Nancy.
    He went into the Army Air Force in March 1943, AirCraft Mechanics School at Curtiss Wright in California and Gunnery School in Nevada.  He then joined a crew as Engineer for flight training on a Boeing B17 bomber in Rapid City, South Dakota.  In September 1944, he joined the 390th Bomber Group of the 8th Air Force in Framlingham, England where he flew 30 missions over Germany and Europe.  He received the Purple Heart Medal, Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, the 8th Air Force Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
    After World War II ended in May 1945, he returned home and was later discharged as a T/Sergeant in September 1945.  He took a tool and die apprenticeship at Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors and then advanced to a Senior Tool Designer.  He retired in 1982 after 36 years with Harrison’s.  After retirement Everett and Ruth enjoyed wintering in Florida.
    He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, The Tuscarora Club, Elks Club, Moose Club, Clinton Club and American Legion. He lived his entire life in the Lockport Area.
    He is survived by his son Leonard (Margie) Fitchlee of Middleport and daughter Nancy (Dean) Warner of Richmond, VA.; also 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
    He enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting and fishing, playing cards, gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
    Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, September 30th from 4-7 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport.   Services will be held Friday, October 1st at 10 AM in Trinity Lutheran Church, 67 Saxton Street, Lockport.  Interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery.  Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church or to charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.  Online condolences at www.pruddenandkandt.com.

    Ruth A. Fitchlee passed away suddenly October 6, 2009 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Born September 27, 1923 in Cambria, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Lillian (Hellert) Behm. Ruth worked for several years as a receptionist for William H. Menard Optical. She was a member of the Women's Guild of Trinity Lutheran Church, Senior Citizens, and enjoyed wintering in Florida, bowling and playing cards. Ruth is survived by her husband of 63 years, Everett Fitchlee of Lockport, whom she married December 1946 in Trinity Lutheran Church; father of Leonard (Margie) Fitchlee of Middleport, Nancy (Dean) Warner of Richmond. VA and the late Gary Fitchlee; grandmother of Leslie and Allison Fitchlee, Joshua and Kasey Warner and Vanessa Cain; great-grandmother of Hana Fitchlee and Jordan Cain; mother in-law of Becky Fitchlee of Gainesville, FL; sister of Delbert (Jeanne) Behm, Evelyn (Norman) Capell, Iverna Behm and the late Harold Behm, Elton Behm, Mildred Eick, Marilyn Gauda and Geraldine Waters; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, where funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 AM.     Fitchlee, Sr., of 1614 Dawn Lane,
    Holiday, Fla., formerly of Middleport,
    died Tuesday in Wellsville,
    N.Y.
    He was born in the Town of
    Royalton Nov. 21, 1903, son
    of Charles and Mabel Fitchlee. He
    was an engineer at Harrison's,
    retiring in 1968.
    He was a past master of Lodge 787
    F&AM of Gasport, was past high
    priest of the Ames Chapter of Lockport,
    and was past illustrious master
    of Bruce Council of Lockport.
    He was active in area conservation
    education in Niagara
    County and was known as "Mr.
    Conservation" throughout the area.
    He was secretary treasurer of the
    Niagara County Fede ation of
    Conservation Clubs for 30 years. He
    served on the board of directors of
    the New York State Conservation
    Council for 15 years, he was
    president of the New York State
    Association of Soil and Water
    Conservation Districts, and was an
    honorary member of the LaSalle
    Sportsmen's Club, the Tonawanda
    Sportsmen's Club, and the Fin-
    Feather-Fur Conservation Society.
    Fitchlee received several conservation
    awards, including the
    naming of the park in Gasport in his
    honor last summer making it the
    Victor A. Fitchlee Park.
    Survivors include two sons and
    two daughters, Everett (Ruth)
    Fitchlee of Lockport, Mrs. Harold
    (Janet) Behm of Florida, Victor E.
    (Polly) Fitchlee of Middleport, Mrs.
    Douglas (Delores) Melville of
    Florida; 14 grandchildren; six great
    grandchildren; one brother and
    three sisters, John Fitchlee of
    Appleton, Mrs. Geneva Burns of
    Medina, Mrs. Clarence (Alice)
    Zimmerman of Newfane, and Mrs.
    Lee (Ann) Scott of Florida; and
    several nieces and nephews.
    Friends may call Thursday (7-9)
    and Friday (2-4, 7-9) at the Bates,
    Wallace and Heath Funeral Home
    Inc., 38 State St., where funeral
    services will be held Saturday at 11
    a.m. with the Rev. Edward
    Traunscht officiating. Burial will be
    in Royalton Mountain Ridge
    Cemetery.

    A 72-year-old Lockport woman,
    Mrs. Lillian Behm, died this
    morning (Feb. 6, 1960) in Inter-
    Community Memorial Hospital,
    Newfane. She was taken there
    by the Fire Department First Aid
    Squad Friday afternoon after she
    was refused admission to Lock
    port Memorial Hospital because
    the hospital was filled.
    The firemen answered a call at
    4:10 Friday afternoon when Mrs.
    Behm experienced difficulty
    breathing in the home of her
    daughter. Mrs. WlBwt E&3r, M
    Akron St.
    When the woman failed to respond
    to an inhalator, she was
    rushed to the Lockport hospital
    and then to the Newfane hospital.
    Dr. George H. Barone, chief of
    the medical staff at Memorial
    Hospital, explained today that
    when Mrs. Behm arrived, all
    rooms were filled.
    The doctor said that in some
    emergency cases a bed can be
    set up in a hallway, but that
    Mrs. Behm had suffered a heart
    attack and needed an oxygen
    tent.
    State law prohibits hospitals
    from setting up oxygen tents in
    corridors, Dr. Barone explained.
    Buffalo General Hospital was
    contacted but also was unable to
    accept Mrs. Behm, Dr. Barone
    said. The Lockport hospital then
    made arrangements for her admission
    at Newfane.
    Mrs. Behm, the former Lillian
    Hellert, was the widow of John
    A. Behm, who died in November
    1952. Formerly of 1199 Stone Rd.,
    she had been a Town of Lockport
    resident for the past 30 years.
    Mrs. Behm was a member of
    Trinity Lutheran Church.
    Surviving are six daughters,
    Mrs. Leslie Waters of Lyndon-'
    ville; Mrs. Eick; Mrs. Everett
    Fitchlee, and Mrs. Robert Dodge,
    all of Lockport; Mrs. Norman
    Capell of Appleton, and Miss Iverna
    Behm of Buffalo; three sons,
    Elton A.. Delbert J. and Haftld
    A. Behm, all of Lockport; a
    brother, John Hellert of Medina;
    19 grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren
    and several nieces
    and nephews.
    The Rev. Ernest E. Heuer, pastor
    of Trinity Lutheran Church,
    will officiate at services in the
    Prudden and Kandt Funeral
    Home, 242 Genesee St., at 2
    Monday afternoon. Burial will be
    in North Ridge Lutheran Cemetery.
