John L. Boyd Sr., 73, of 8514
Richmond Ave., a retired international
representative of
the AFL-CIO, died Friday
(Oct.. 15, 1971) in Veterans
Administration Hospital, Buffalo,
after a short illness.
Born in Gastonville, Pa., he
was once a member of the
Springdale, Pa., City Council, a
post in which he served for
seven years, five of them as
president.
He came to this area in 1942
as a CIO representative
assigned to the Gas, Coke and
Chemical Union and retired
eight years ago.
A veteran of World War I,
Mr. Boyd became active in the
trade union movement in 1911.
I^ter, he became involved in
labor politics serving with the
original labor's Non-Partisan
League, the Political Action
Committee and the Committee
on Political Education.
He is survived by his widow,
Esther (Shafer) Boyd; two
sons, John L. and David A.
Boyd; four daughters, Mrs.
Paul (Rosemary) Schul, Mrs.
Robert (Donna) Wade, Mrs.
Robert (Joanne) Johnson, and
Mrs. Bruno (Sandra) Moretti,
all of this city.
Also surviving are a brother,
Joseph Boyd of Mansfield,
Ohio; four sisters, Mrs.
Frederick (Anna) Wahl, Mrs.
Joseph (Mary) Richardson,
Mrs. William (Katherine)
Baser, all of this city, and Mrs.
John (Frances) Almerts of
Hohokus, N.J., and 17 grandchildren.
Funeral services will beheld
at the Otto Redan/. Funeral
Home Monday at 9:30 a.m. and
at Prince of Peace Church at 10
a.m. Burial will he in
Resthaven Cemetery.
Friends may call at the
funeral home today from 7 to 9
p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m.
