Arthur Behnke Injured in Railroad Accident at Ransomville This Morning - Case Considered Hopeless
Arthur Behnke was badly injured in ransomville this morning. With Mr. & Mrs Arthur Beach and daughter of the Ridge Road, he went to Ransomville early this morning. Beach is a cooper and he got out of the wagon at his shop while his wife and the Behnke boy proceeded to the village. A freight train was standing on a side track waiting to pass, and as the wagon was on the railroad crossing the train backed down without any warning, striking the wagon. The occupants were thrown out and the boy was thrown under the wheels. Mrs. Beach and her daughter escaping with a few bruises, while the Behnke boy had both of his legs crushed. Dr. H. W. Wright and Dr. Clayton Clark were called and dressed the boy's injuries temporarily, he being placed aboard the train due at the south end of the city at 5:35 o'clock. The police anbulance was in waiting and the injured boy was conveyed to Memorial Hospital were he was attended by Dr. W. H. Hodge, John Grey, and B. F. Dennis . His legs were found to be badly crushed, but-his condition was such that it was deemed unwise.to operate upon him until he had rallied. At 2 o'clock this afternoon there was no change in his condition. If an operation is performed, it will be necessary to remove both legs. His case is considered hopeless.
