PFC Strassburg Killed in Action
Private First Class Alton W. Strassburg, of the Ward road, RFD1, Niagara Falls, was reported killed in action in France on August 16, according to a telegram from the U.S. War department received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Strassburg, of the same address. He was inducted into the army on March 19, 1941, and received his infantry training at Fort McClellan, Ala., and later was sent to Camp Shelby, Camp Patrick Henry and Fort Meade. Early in last November he was sent to North Africa and, after two months service there, was transferred to Italy. No word was received from him after leaving Italy. A brother, Wilfred, is serving with the Quartermaster's corps in France, while another brother, Glenn is with the Tank corps at Camp Campbell, Ky. He is also survived by another brother, James, at home, and by four sisters, Genevieve. Marion, Annabelle and Betty Ann, all at home.

NORTH TONAWANDA - Mrs. Ida A. Strassburg. 65. of 6928 Ward Rd.. Town of Wheatfield, widow of Albert Strassburg. died Sunday (Oct. 29. 1961) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Strassburg was a member of the Gold Star Mothers Club of Wheatfield Post American Legion Surviving are three sons. Wilfred and Glenn Strassburg. Niagara Falls, and .James Strassburg, Wheatfield: four daughters, Mrs. David (Genevieve) Harms and Mrs. Richard (Annabelle) Harrison, both of this city, Mrs Marion Blanchard, and Miss Betty Ann Strassburg. both of Wheatfield: two sisters. Mrs. James Redding a n d Mrs William Wiegand. both of Wheatfield, and Mrs William Ostwald, Phoenix. Ariz ; and two brothers. Raymond and Louis Werth, both of Wheatfield The family will be present from 2-4 and 7-9 p m. at the Fretthold Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday. John G. Strassburg, 66, of 296 Thompson street, died last night in the DeGraff Memorial hospital. Born in the town of Wheatfield, he had resided in North Tonawanda the past 40 years. Surviving are his wife, Ella H., nee Genet; a son, Harold of North Tonawanda; two daughters, Misses Edna and Elda, at home; three brothers: Philip, of Sanborn; Christian, of North Tonawanda and William of Pekin, and six sisters: Mrs. Herman Meilke, Mrs. Edward Wendt and Mrs. Fred Vanderwater of Pekin, Mrs. William Strassburg of Santa Monica, Calif., Mrs. Augusta Pfanner of Tonawanda and Mrs. Louis Horacek of Rochester. Rites will be held Sunday afternoon at two from the residence and at 2:30 from the St. Matthew's church, with the Rev. Carl Frankenstein officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew's cemetery.

The funeral of Mrs. Caroline H. Ziehl was held from her late home on the Ward Road In St. Johnsburg. Saturday afternoon at 1:30 and half an hour later from St. John's church, the Rev. Walter Thiemecke officiating. Burial was in St. John's cemetery, St. Johnsburg. Mrs. Ziehl was seventy-one years of age and had been suffering from a lingering illness for some time. She leaves to mourn her loss, three sons William, Charles and Albert Strassburg of St, Johnsburg. one sister. Mrs. Chas. Hildebrandt of St. Johnsburg and-three brothers. Chas. Gandt of Niagara Falls, and Albert and August Gandt of North Tonawanda.
